Simply put: By looking through your collection of CD's, tapes, vinyls, etc., count the number of bands for each nationality.

This is only including albums I actually own, elsewise I'd have countries such as Chile, Greece, and the Czech Republic on there as well. Also, no points for guessing the name of that one band from the Faroe Islands that I have in my collection.

Too lazy to count, but I'm sure the USA will be way ahead of anything else. Probably then Germany, the UK, and Canada in that order for the rest.

EDIT: Unless this counts for all genres of music, in which case the UK would definitely be in second place.
