I already listen to Anaal Nathrakh all the time... Hell is Empty (All the devils are here) is pretty awesome... I guess I should have specified that I like the band more for their vocals than anything... the strong clean vocals mixed with the practically-incomprehensible death vocals.

Yea none of this sounds anything like Akercocke but yea Ruun and Below the Lights (well most of their discography) by Enslaved are teh awesome.
Yea IMO Ruun is bar none my fav Enslaved work but I guess if you wanna go for Monumension next that's cool..

i just watched that interview. quite brilliant. also, thats my favorite ackercocke song. i like how they cut out just when the singing starts. ALL METAL IS SHRIEKS AND GROWLS OMG!!!

Problem Yet to be Solved
A band that successfully combines similar progressive elements would be Frantic Bleep. Most of their vocals are sung, and they have a guest female vocalist in many of their songs who is in no way typical of female metal vocalists. I actually discovered them on my Akercocke station on Pandora.
