Well, to continue on another thread; which bands you think had way too much attention. So did get famous and don't deserve it ?? My top vote is Guns & Roses, but Cradle of Filth comes pretty close.

Guns N Roses deserved it back in the Appetite For Destrcution era. Not only was it a killer album but the band as a whole had everything it took to be big: the attitude, the vibe, the image, they summed up everything cool about rock music and captured it. They definitely deserved the attention, they just abused their fame by turning crap after it.

Is this only in metal? I can't really think of any other the CoF. But if this goes for other genres then I would say Linkin Park and Britany Spears. Britany doesn't write her own songs and doesn't even sing live at her shows (so I've heard) That's what makes her different than Christian who's music I don't like but I do think she has talent and versatility.

Sorrty Trix..... I did like Apettite when it first came out, but it wasn't long at all before I was so sick of listening to Axl's screeches that I wanted to pull my hair out. I thought they were a glorified bar band.

I don't think CoF is that bad. I know that their music has changed but they still have good use of keyboards on their later projects. I play the keys myself, so I guess that's why I still like their music. Other than the nu "metal" bands that are out there, I can't really think of a band that should not have made it... well atleast at the moment.

I agree.

First off - I think Appetite for Desturction was one of the best Rock albums ever recorded - GnR just did it right - but I was VERY sick of that album in short order. Axl self destructed after a while anyway, so it doesn't really matter...

As for Linkin Park, I am not a fan, but I will give them credit for being good at what they do. They do write very catchy melodies that work well in their songs, even though there's all sorts of other stuff going on. The other thing I give them credit for as a band is that they do just about everything themeslves besides the music. They do all their own graphics and promotion, direct a lot of their videos and come up with all the concepts and shit. They do their own marketing, they have their friends running their street team and all that as well. Anyway, like I said, I am NOT a fan, but I do respect their ability to be self contained and keep things the way they want them, whether I like their ideas or not.

Now, for a band that never should have gotten any play, let alone made it:

Il Nino - Absolutely horrible-no talent bullshit

Cradle Of Filth BY FAR
worst band ever
then many crappy trendy metal bands like In Flames, Edgay, Rhapsody, Nightwish
they are all crap, without inspiration, they are just promoted in a huge degree.

I actually like In Flames a lot - their early stuff before any type of promotion was awesome in my opinion...but again, that's just my opinion. Definitely not a big CoF fan...more theater than music if you ask me...

their early stuff is definetaly better than the shit they release now..
thats the thing i'm talking about when they released their good albums, they lacked attention, and now all the lights are on them

I would have to agree with you more...and that's one of the downfalls of gaining popularity and success in music. I read an article with Maynard James Keenan of TOOL about 2 years ago, and they were asking him about the writing process and how all their success has affected them. He said that any time he starts feeling comfortable and happy, and intentionally goes and immerses himself in misery and anger and pain...I was really struck by that - I mean, he's an unusual guy anyway, but it was a pretty profound statement he made. I guess when you start making it, you don't have the same sources for that fire that originally fueled the angst and the desire to create and write and push the envelope...plus, you get record suits involved with their ideas and successful producers who want to advise you on things and all that shit...

For me...if I were in a band, I would bust my ass and make as much money as we could once success started in, and I wouldn't spend a fucking dime...no advances, no fancy cars or anything. Then I would sink some money into a big house (no gold plated shit or marble or any of that crap) with a studio, and we'd do all our own production and all that shit - keep those label fuckers out of the picture. All we'd need is a distribution deal...hopefully that could keep things on a more real basis...

...but then again - that's never gonna happen to me, so who gives a shit...

Yesterday they were gay, now they're crap, make your mind damn it :p

Seriously, they're probably not the best musicians around, far from that, but that judgment sounds very harsh.
I'm no Rhapsody or Nightwish fanatic (I like some songs though), but at least they have their own thing going, so they can't be that bad.

yup. I agree. I liked it ok when i first bought it, but it just got old quick for me, and Axl's vocals just annoyed me. And all the hype really disappointed me.

I would have to add Bon Jovi, in here. I hate him and the band with a strong passion. I don't feel as though they are capable of writing a metal song or anything close. But instead write terrible love ballads.

I agree with you on that one.... accept for the first album, that was a great AOR / rock album.

What was first one? I know a few, but I can only think of Slippery when wet. Isn't that the one they hit it big with?....God, I really hate the way he looks.

The first one was just Bon Jovi. Had the songs Runaway, She Don't KNow Me, and Shot Through The Heart...... and some of THE WORST videos ever made!!!!!!!!! It's a cheeeesey album but I still like it.

Hey, man Turbo's the worst Priest and it's cheesy as hell, but I still like it. Even though I bitch about it and wish they could have released something using more talent, but it's all a matter of personal opinion.

Oh man!!! When that album came out I hated it!!!!!! But now I really like it, don't know why but for some reason it grew on me over the years. When I picked up a copy of the remaster cd it was in my player for 3 or 4 days.

I thought "Ram It Down" was Priest's worst album...came off as really corny and just thrown together...in my opinion...
