Bands that should NOT have made it

Oh man!!! When that album came out I hated it!!!!!! But now I really like it, don't know why but for some reason it grew on me over the years. When I picked up a copy of the remaster cd it was in my player for 3 or 4 days.

Same here!!! I was pissed when I got it, but over the years I would throw in it when I got sick of the other cd's. Now I have to put in every now and then just for "locked in".

I thought "Ram It Down" was Priest's worst album...came off as really corny and just thrown together...in my opinion...

NO WAY!!!!!!! Ram it Down is far from the best, but still it's great cd. Heavy Metal was one of the songs that got me hooked. In fact it was the first cd I purchased. I can see what you mean, though.

I have to admit I still have my copy or Ram it Down...but I haven't listened to it in years. The thing I remember about that album was that after it came out, Slayer had just released South of Heaven I believe, and they were being interviewed on WSOU (South Orange NJ metal station). They were asking Slayer about why they covered "Dissident Aggressor", and Kerry King was saying how he was a huge fan of early Priest and Iron Maiden and shit, and they asked what they thought of "Ram it Down", and Kerry King goes..."I think they should ram it down and hang it the fuck up"...totally monotone and dead serious, as Kerry is famous for being brutally honest...

hahahahahaha, that's hilarous. South of heaven is way better than Ram it down.

Well, to continue on another thread; which bands you think had way too much attention. So did get famous and don't deserve it ?? My top vote is Guns & Roses, but Cradle of Filth comes pretty close.
I completely disagree with your vote for GNR, they were the shit & earned what they deserved, both at the start of their career & at the end of it.
Cardle of Filth is a shit band, but to be quite honest, they never have "Made it." If Made IT means recorded a decent record? Has yet to happen!
I think my vote would have gone to Non-make up KISS, there's just nothing there, until The Revenge Record. I would have to say solo David Lee Roth, he has never put out a record that has been mind blowing, just goes to show who the real talent in the band was. Limp Bizit should have never made it, we have Ozzy & Sharon for this, Thanks for putting those guys on Ozzfest & making them a household name. Kid Rock should have never made it, while I know a lot of you could careless, he will never top Devil without a Cause, and now we'll sit & watch his career take a downward spiral! Maybe that midget was his good luck charm? Or the real talent? Speaking of downward spirals, what about Trent Reznor? Another no talent that should have never made it, he was at the right place at the right time. What has he done that is worth a damn lately? Or some might say ever?! Ministry, should have never made it, talk about a bunch of dick teases, these guys are always on the verge of putting out the best record ever, when will this happen?! I'm getting blue balls & I'm about ready to explode! Rammstien, what the fuck is that about?! All their shit sounds like the last thing you heard from them! Sounds like a German Johnny Cash being backed by a NUMETAL band from the bar circuit of Southern California. You've opened a can of worms becuase there's so much shit that would fall into this here thread...

Yeah, the only thing that bothers me is that bloody drumming machine, but the album still rocks, and so does Turbo :loco:

am I a Priest fanatic or what?

I thought Eat 'Em And Smile was a fun record..... it's total fluff, but still a fun record. :)

That's scares me! I was expecting flames not support, are you hitting on me? :p  Because I don't like much your picture in the avatar :loco:

I hate this type of thread, they always inflame passions and led to war (mark my words, and I hope to be wrong :erk: ).

First off - I think Appetite for Desturction was one of the best Rock albums ever recorded - GnR just did it right - but I was VERY sick of that album in short order. Axl self destructed after a while anyway, so it doesn't really matter...

As for Linkin Park, I am not a fan, but I will give them credit for being good at what they do. They do write very catchy melodies that work well in their songs, even though there's all sorts of other stuff going on.

I think the singer (not the rapper guy) in Linkin Park has an awesome voice, but I don't like their music. I wish he would quit and get in a more traditional hard rock or metal band, because he has one of the better voices I have heard on the radio.

agree on all but Van Halen, Nevermore and Manowar (Battle Hymns album ONLY! rest is shitty)
Damn yeah, forget Marilyn Manson, completely worthless music...

Sinner Rider ain't in my good books anymore after that Bon Jovi comment...

Bon Jovi never were and have never claimed to be a metal band so whether they can write a metal song or not doesn't matter. As an arena rock act, Bon Jovi were far and away one of the best bands EVER to do it.

Their debut album as Greeno said is a great piece of AOR/melodic rock, especially underrated tracks like Roulette, Breakout, Love Lies & Shot Through The Heart (not to be confused with You Give Love A Bad Name). And 7800 Fahrenheit also had alot of killer AOR stuff on it like The Hardest Part Is The Night, Price Of Love & Only Lonely.

Then Slippery When Wet & New Jersey, how anybody could deny that those 2 albums are GREAT arena rock baffles me! Bon Jovi are really some of the best rock songwriters ever I think (and don't say nah its only coz they had Desmond Child co-writing coz he only co-wrote a few songs with them). I don't think any arena rock band has ever had such a "big", catchy, explosive sound as Bon Jovi did in their heyday and everything they attempted back then they did perfectly whether it be a HUGE arena rock anthem like Lay Your Hands On Me or Bad Medicine (so much energy and so explosive!) or an emotional love ballad like Never Say Goodbye or Living In Sin, or a melodic rock/AOR track like Without Love, or something like Wanted Dead Or Alive, Wild Is The Wind, etc. Whether or not you like commercial sounding arena rock, I don't think there is any doubt that Bon Jovi did it better than anybody. I'm a mammoth KISS fan and they are my favourite band ever but even I'll say nothing they have ever done can even touch Bon Jovi at their peak.

Even 1992's Keep The Faith was a GREAT '90s rock album, though very different from their earlier ones. It perfectly kept a big, explosive, catchy sound while keeping current (and I think that album even sounds current now in 2004). It's only the last few Bon Jovi studio albums from These Days onwards that they have sucked.

Gotta agree on Manowar. I think they suck. But Van Halen? Nah they deserved every bit of their success. Extremely talented and influencial band. Eddie Van Halen was playing '80s guitar flash before it existed and David Lee Roth was the flamboyant Sunset Strip glam frontman before Sunset Strip glam existed.

Plus I generally think a comment like "All hair/glam bands" and "All mallcore bands" etc is silly. Basically you're just posting what stuff you don't like, that doesn't mean the bands aren't good at it. I can't stand mallcore, and because of that I don't think I have a right to comment about which bands should or should not have made it because I'm not qualified to comment on who does it well because I don't like the style.

Oh yeah and I'll take Ram It Down over South Of Heaven anyday! Because I think Slayer are a band who didn't deserve anywhere near the success they have. Totally overrated, there are tons of better thrash bands with singers who can actually sing in time with the music and guitarists who can actually play and songs that don't all sound the same apart from a few standouts here and there. Besides, "Heavy Metal", "Blood Red Skies" and "I'm A Rocker" are killer tracks, among some other highlights on that album too. The drum machine is annoying though.
