Bands to keep an eye on...

I agree with phyre, but eliminating the language barrier isn't necessarily a compromise...sure, in some cases foreign lyrics add to the band's aesthetic, but would anyone here criticize Moonsorrow or Finntroll if they decided to do their next album in English? I wouldn't, if only because I would be able to sing along instead of approximating the chorus melody for once. :)

You're missing the point. What matters is not IF they do it but WHY. It mustn't be because of anything other than artistic reasons. Changing languages etc. only in order to reach out to more people is complete bullshit because it compromises the artistic aspect of the music.

a different languange you don't understand makes music seem cooler. . . case in point: rammstein

this:

Du
Du hast
Du hast mich

Du
Du hast
Du hast mich

Du hast mich
Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab
nichts gesagt

Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet
treu ihr sein fur alle Tage...

nein

Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide
sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen....

nein

sounds much better than this (i know the translation is not perfect, but. . .):

You
You have
You have me

You
You have
You have me

You have asked me
You have asked me
You have asked me
And I said nothing

will you until death does part you
be true to her on all days

Never

will you 'til the death of the slit,
love her, even in bad times

Never

ADAGIO!!! This band mostly consisting of European based players (Stephan Forte, guitarist and leader of Adagio is from France) is amazing. Always hear comparisons to Symphony X, Dream Theater and Yngwie Malmsteen...that is all good as they are talented as FUCK!!! Not many bands I know release a gem of a debut "Sanctus Ignis" and follow it up with something equal if not better "Underworld". Neo-Classical-ProgMetal or whatever you want to call it, they are rising up in the ranks. I keep saying Symphony X are the kings in this genre, but Adagio is hot on their heels and rising fast! :)

Cheers, Tony
