Bands you are shocked are not appearing next year...

Zod... Is SX a guess, a hopeful, or both for you?
A little bit of each.

Reason I ask is because for a host of different reasons I could see them doing basically the same type of set Sonata did this year. If they played virtually the same headliner set list they did in the U.S. this year plus the same obligatory fillers they've always done the past few tours, would you be satisfied with them as a headliner? Personally, I would be quite disappointed.
While I agree with everything you've said, for me it's a matter of actually seeing someone I like in a headliner spot:

I believe the last time I was interested in seeing a ProgPower headliner was PPII.

Blind Guardian - not my favorite
Angra - they sounded terrible
Stratovarius - can't stand them
Pain of Salvation - I think my feelings on PoS are well documented
Nightwish - don't like them
Edguy - they were good as a #3, not as a headliner
Evergey - they were great at PPII, since then they've bored me
Jorn - LOL
Weapons of Mass Destruction - most boring show I've ever seen
Rage - second most boring show I've ever seen

Also... I don't know if it's SX's inability to understand the concept of the "special show" or simply no desire to play one, but my confidence in them as a PP headliner is currently minimal.
From what perspective? To go over well? To hold the majority of the crowd?

So are people really "shocked" that Freedom Call isn't playing next year, or has this thread just become another "Who do you want to see at PP" thread? I'm hoping the latter, but either way it's terrible that anyone would ever want to see FC.

Zod, you were excited about After Forever.

And just curious, but how many of the bands you like do you think are qualified as a headliner?

I know there's only a few of mine, and most of them have already done it. Before I started coming.

WOW... WOMD the most boring show you ever saw... well I guess if we all liked the same thing than that would make for a pretty boring world, right?

I don't think anyone has said SIEGES EVEN. I really feel they are due to make an appearance.
I think the fact that no one has mentioned Sieges Even, would suggest they don't need to make an appearance here. Don't get me wrong, I like Sieges Even. However, they're not a Metal band and this is a Metal festival.

Yes, could be too proggy for some, but this is a band with two members that have played in two of the bigger power metal bands. So perhaps that fact would create interest with the power folks.
I doubt that would create any interest among Power Metal fans.

No... I was curious. If you were so inclined to go back and read what I wrote, I said I was curious to hear Floor sing, but that I suspected I would be back at the bar after three songs (which I was).

Probably only Nevermore, Symphony X and Iced Earth. Don't get me wrong, I go into every year expecting not to have any interest in the headliners.

I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that the reason Morgana Lefay has not played PP yet is because they've headlined Chicago PowerFest twice. This is not by any means a slam on Glenn, but we know that Glenn enjoys getting bands that are making their American debut and ML no longer fits that criteria.

Being that I live in Minnesota, I was fortunate enough to see Morgana Lefay twice, back to back years at Chicago PowerFest. That being said, I would go apeshit if Glenn booked them for PP. They put on an absolutely amazing performance both years and would be a huge asset to PP.

RED MOON ... THE NIGHT OF POSSESSION!!

That's a very good point.

However, Morgana Lefay must still be booked for ProgPower somewhere in time.

Well, I'm not a HUGE fan but I think they fall into that "good bet" arena for the past 3 or 4 PPs. They have some history, they are booked rather highly at European shows and they have their deal with SPV (correct?) which circulates a few cds here in the USA. That makes them a bit of a shock to me as well for not having shown up yet.

This is where we differ in perception 100% and explains why you bust my balls frequently. I'll tell you why:

In 2007, they are/opened for Nightmare, Pink Cream 69, Nocturnal Rites, and Dragon Force. They played 5 festivals in 2007 and only one could be considered a major: Earthshaker. Their billing was 18th out of 34 (above such monster draws as Runamok, Deadlock, Justice, Desperadoz, & Eluveite). They may have SPV circulation, but their soundcan numbers are not something I want to publish here (yes, I know people buy imports, etc- but the same argument holds true for a band like Andromeda).

I do agree they have history if you are referring to catalog. However, if I went by that alone, then I would have booked Sacred Steel ahead of a lot of other bands.

Please note that I am not referring to their talent or artistic merit as I do own 3 of their discs. I loved "Taragon" as well.

I have seen both FREEDOM CALL, and POWERQUEST live. All I can say is....PLEASE KEEP THEM OFF THE PPUSA BILL! *YAWN*!

The multi-national and multi-talented CIVILIZATION ONE wrapped things up. Playing their first ever gig and led from the front by their larger-than life frontman Chity Somapala, Civilisation One quickly showed why there is such a buzz going on about them. An exciting performance, some great songs, and a vast amount of talent – Chity is a livewire vocalist and guitarist Aldo Lonobile is a truly fantastic guitarist as anyone who saw his band Secret Sphere at PPUK 2006 will remember. Pierre-Emmanuel Pélisson is a great bassist, and new keyboard player Jesper Stotz is a real star in the making. With Luca Cartasegna hurting his leg playing football, Frederico Pennazzato was drafted in at short notice and did a damn good job behind the drum kit. Unfortunately, a planned encore of ‘Holy Diver’ had to be pulled because of time constraints, but it didn’t seem to spoil anyone’s enjoyment of the evening.

Yes. Dragon Force is a top draw band. Pink Cream 69, although you don't seem a fan of their performance at PP, is still a solid headline draw in Europe after 18 years of work, Nocturnal Rites is a band everyone wants here (and they did kill at Chicago). Nightmare, by the way, is a very good unknown band but I'm a little shocked that FC opened for them unless it was in France.

Ironically, your own point justifies why they have every qualification to appear here. Astral Doors, you've mentioned numerous times, was "big" because they opened for Blind Guardian. Well, opening for Dragon Force must legitimize FC right off the bat, I'd think. :)

yeah, c'mon spin doctor. All but one of these dates is in France. But your point will still be taken and considered.

Oh, and I'd consider Bloodstock to be a "major" festival as well and you can clearly see that FC is in amongst some very solid bands on that lineup too.

I'm not justifying why they shouldn't be here. I'm just telling you why I don't consider them any more big of a draw than a band like Astral Doors. You and I are just going to have to agree to disagree on popularity perception of certain bands and how to choose a roster for a festival. Thankfully, I have been able to prove you wrong in the past and I anticipate proving you wrong again in the future.

I do think SX would go over pretty well. Some folks have no qualms about hearing Inferno, King of Terrors, Evolution, Smoke and Mirrors, Sea of Lies, Of Sins and Shadows etc... over and over and over again.

I also think SX would hold the majority of the crowd, for the same reason.

However, my shaky confidence in their headlining ability lays in a certain degree of "stubbornness" held by the band. They "seem" to want their two most recent albums to define them and their live performances, and as a result, I don't believe they would give PP a headlining set that I would personally want. I could be very wrong, hell I'd love to be. I guess I'd just rather see a band that pulls out all the stops in the headlining spot, as opposed to just seemingly going through the motions ala Sonata.
