Bands you thought were great as a kid, but...

I grew up as a kid listening to Saxon, still do, and love 'em just as much. Noiwadys Im more into my trashy rock kinda thing. I liked the idea of a band that 'walks it like it talks it', probably why I got into AC/DC, Bon Scott, what a fuckin lunatic that guy was!! then theres Motorhead (need I say more?) and finally theres the new love in my life 'Backyard Babies' trashy, sleazy and in your face. I spoke to Nicke and Dregen before a show in Birmingham when they were supporting AC/DC a couple of years ago and asked them if the rumours of their hedonistic lifestyle were true, without a word (and this is so true!!) they guided me towards the tour bus and inside, what I saw will probably never fade in my mind, there was a hog (harley) in the gangway of the bus and at the end where there was a seating area were a load of girls, crate after crate of beer (and more elsewhere I was reliably informed) plus the inevitable endless lines of charlie and various other 'after dinner snacks'. These guys from Sweden spoke the truth on that stage and on their records, it wasnt made up, trust me I know, coz I was invited back afterwards for a small cocktail and polite chat (RIGHT!!) an experience I'll never forget, ever!

Right on!!! The backyard Babies are one of the best bands on the planet right now!! How they are completely unknown here in the US just boggles my mind. it's a crime I tell you.

Are you into older trashy / junkie bands, Macc? I'm a big fan of The Joneses, Johnny Thunders, The Weaklings, and the Humpers.

Allot of the bands I like the most are like that, it took me a while to get into them but now I love 'em.

I'll go with Guns N Roses for the first album thing. After that they went down hill, trying to big bigger than they were if you know what I mean. They were a great hard rock band at first that ended up thinking they were "artists".

Yeah, I'm with you. I think some of the stuff from the Illusions albums can actually rival the Appetite record. They just made the mistake and released two good albums instead of one real killer.
