I know this is a stupid question, but are there any sleepers out there? I used to have a dual rectifier, but sold it a few years back. I'm just now playing again, but can't shell out that type of dough. Anything on the cheap?

A Valve Jr with a stombox in front of it?

Try a Bugera 6260. It's just like the 5150 except you add a 1 to the first 3 digits while keeping the last one unchanged. A bargain and a superior amp really since the numbers are higher (as if Playstation 3 is not better than 2).

Now that I think about it 5150 + 1110 = 6260

How much is 1110 in binary? 14, which is exactly what I would rate this amp!

Bugera = Behringer?

Its the same thing, essentially, right?

If they're amps are as good as their ProAudio stuff... :Puke:

I've just got a Randall RM20B..........all-valve. Works using pre-amp modules that you buy seperately. I just got a b-stock of it from music123. Got it flown into the UK and it worked out at about £300 all-together, that's the actual amp, import VAT and delivery by UPS. I bought the Recto pre-amp module off ebay 2nd hand for £70. it's based on the exact Mesa Dual Rec. preamp circuitry, same tubes etc. 1 x 12 celestion greenback speaker in it and it's sounding sweet :-) It's well good for recording, as it has a direct recording out in addition to a line out, and of course ability to add a hefty cab to the equation. If I get bored of the recto sound, I can simple switch out the preamp module for another one. There's 13 to choose from in total, clean ones, some based other classic amps. I think one called the xtc is based on a bognor, there's one based on a jcm800 or 2000. For the price and flexibility it's just a great system. they do 50w versions and also just heads etc, i think the bigger ones can have more than one module in at a time. budget wise, if you can pick up a second hand one of these then it really fits the bill recording wise as the sound is excellent. if you gig, then with a gig i'm sure it's more than loud enough. have a look on the randall site for some sound clips of various modules - http://www.randallamplifiers.com

I got my XXX head used in great condition with new jj 6l6gcs in it for 475. Definitely a great head if you can find a good deal.

Seems like I've seen some XXX go for around $500 on ebay....5150's too. Really, IMO this is the kind of scenario where it makes sense to find the extra $ now or else you'll just want to upgrade again in a year.
