Bass Editing - Any tips?

Is it worth doing it manually ?

How I do so far is, 2 DIs routed to a bus : I see both waveforms together.
I cut and bring their transients to a certain unison, visually, then drag them to the grid where it should be.
The reason is that, yes sometimes you have a transient starting at a point but there's still a correctable amount of dephasage between the 2 tracks (even played ultra tight).

But it is a lot more time consuming.
I watched the video where the guy edits drums with a macro and it's lightspeed faster but I wonder if taking the time to do it like I do is worth it. Sorry, don't have a visual support for my example right now.

Edit: took the DIs from http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/practice-room/850423-mix-deliverance-di-package.html to make a little picture :

i would also recommend side-chaining a compressor on the bass to the kick drum. it makes the bass punch with the drums more.
