Ok guys, I've been working with Reaper the past couple days, as suggested, trying to learn how to edit these drum tracks. It seems cool, but there's a few issues I've run into.

Since editing in slip mode, and all the regions move together, how are you supposed to edit a snare, if it's is almost on with a kick, but not enough to be in time with it?

What do you do when you move a hit to be in time, but you reveal the a hit that was under the crossfade, (like it 2 hits are close to each other, but still not in time)?

Another issue I had was after a while of editing, the tracks no longer matched up with the tempo map(theres timing and tempo changes).

Also, I've had to use 1/32 notes, etc. to get certain part to be close to the grid. I don't know that thats right.. I mean, could the drummer really be that off? Doesn't sound like it when you listen to it.. but it made me think: really, with a high enough note resolution, you can technically make anything "in time", which seems to really defeat the purpose of matching to the grid.

Anyway, in short, it's 5:27 in the morning, I'm very tired, and fustrated, and I really want this method of editing to work, but I'm having trouble getting the drums right/in time, so I don't know if I'm doing it right, or using the wrong note resolution.. and don't know how to fix hits that are supposed to be at the same time, but are off a little. Any help would be great. Thanx. :hypno:

Depending on if you're sampling drums or not, this may help. I'm using Nuendo- What I've done in most cases id damped the kick with a down comforter to keep it out of the OHs-

I usually slip the kicks first, by themselves, since they are usually way higher than the OHs even playback anyway with the whole mix going. Then I slip the rest of the kit. The busy mix should drown out the flams. If it's still way apparent like you're editing a complete mess I think you're SOL man you need some consistency or else anyone would tell you that you'd be better off programming the drums.

As for the tempo issue, what I do is have a count of 8 before and after each tempo change, splice it together once everything has been tracked and change the event length of the OHs to flow into the next tempo change and crossfade

Hope that helps man
