bass on morningrise

As a bassist i think its interesting, cool and very fun to play. But from a song writters point of veiw i think at times its a little over the top.

It's quite interesting, and I like to listen to it. Though, I'm not sure if I enjoy it. It's, as Nuk3m said, over the top. Also, I'm not a big fan of the tone. It's too thin for me.. ..it lacks bass and groove. (I must mention that I tried to copy that tone a year ago or so :Spin: )
Morningrise wouldn't have been the same without DeFarfalla though.

I enjoy Martins playing (and tone) more, though it would've been nice to having him louder in the mix. It would be cool to have him play a bit more melodical and interesting lines, but what he does now suits the music well enough. An example of the simpleness, but grrrrroove that Martin has is that part at about 3:20 in The Leper Affinity. Damn, I love that part.

I love the bass on Morningrise more than all the other bass lines of any other Opeth album. They are very typical, and the bass takes in a bigger role than for example in MAYH. I like this small bass solos. The bass of Nectar and Black Rose Immortal in totally genious. I prefer Farfallas way to play Opeth, but i also like Martin so its no problem for me. Opeth dont have a single song with bad bass lines on it. Did anyone ever though that??
:)

i agree with those of you who said that it was over the top on morningrise...and i agree with the tone thing. I don't really like it.

hopefully the new record lets martin's playing shine like on bwp. the bass line in the drapery falls intro and outro is fucking swizzeet.

That bass works perfectly on that album. And Martin is definitely a better bassist. It's not like Johan wrote what he was playing, and according to Mike he could barely play it when it was written for him. Martin is a true musician. When is ever even looking at his bass when he plays?

I like the bass playing on Morningrise, for someone who couldent play Johan did a good job. Martin is a good bass player but i've always wondered how may of his lines he writes.
