Hey guys, I'm going to get the Ibanez BTB705DX within a couple weeks and it could come with the 40dc or the mk2 pickups. What are the differences between the two? And which do you prefer?

The EMG's are going to be more compressed and more scooped. The barts are going to be more natural and have more low mids. The barts are generally more flexible but the EMG's have a particular sound that some people really like.
I'm a bart guy myself but neither is a bad choice.

I have both , an ibanez with bart and a spector with emg. Although the emg have that agresive sound and a super bumb at the high end i have to say that i prefer the barts aaaall the way!

Gotta say the DC40s in my bass don't sound very scooped at all. More mid-forward, if anything.

I had no idea they did that bass with Bartolinis though. Is it a different model name, or just an option?

To my knowledge the EMG pickups are responsible for my fave metal bass tone ever. (2:40 of Decapitated's 'Three Dimensional Defect').

the BTB705DX doesn't have a Bartolini option, they come with EMG's that is their draw.

i'd love to get that BTB in that finish though witht he Bart's

you can get a pretty sweet Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse sound and i believe he uses those pickups in his Spector and Modulus basses.

still it'd be better to try them both IF YOU CAN, i love the Bart's cus they have that little bit of extra eq option plus great snap to em, really works well for jazz, funk or metal.

it's really up to you, but i don't see you disliking the EMG's either.

Ahh my mistake. I misread their description. It said " other MODELS include mk2s". Anyways, at least it's good to know the differences between the two. Thanks guys :)
