I like p-type pups 'cos of the chunky, punchy, growly sound. But the discontinuity of tone between the lower and the upper pair of strings is fail.
So I've routed (okay, gouged
) the cavity and put in a mm-type humbucker. The tone is now consistent across the strings but it lacks the dynamic punch of the p-type (naturally, since it's a dual-coil).
Does a straight pickup (preferably a stacked humbucker) exist with a p-type sound? J-types I've always found too refined-sounding for my purposes.
Cheers.
