Bass pickups: single coil or humbuckers?

Hi guys!
I would like some opinions from your expert ears! For great metal, punchiness and cutting through the mix do you prefer a single coil configuration or humbuckers?

And on a side topic: do you like more active or passive electronic on bass? Big poles or little ones?

Downtuning or five-six strings?

Well opeth uses single coils in a jazzbass where as kse uses humbuckers nevermore uses musicmans with a MM humbucker... It all depends what you want for tone. single coils tend to have a more midrangey-tone to them

I'm an active humbucker fan personally, although I do like the MusicMan pickup too through an active EQ.

I'll vote for active humbucker as well. my schecter custom 4string has them in it and I'm happy with the sound.

it all depends on the sound you want. i like passives a little more than actives, and i'm a fan of pbass and jbass pickups.

On a totally estetic point of view I like those passives with big big poles, are they passives?

In my Cort curbow 5-string I have a Bartolini active humbucker and on the Samick 6-strings two stock singlecoil actives.

I tend to use a lot more the Cort even though it has a small body, totally uncomfortable to play sitting down.
