Behringer introduces Mixcube ripoffs

The page says they were "conceived by Behringer"...

Do want. Knowing how turd-like the Mixcubes are intended to be... and knowing that Behringer will somehow find ways to make them even turdier, that should make them the ultimate 'listen to your mix under horrid conditions' reference.

Behringer is always finding new ways to bring teh lulz.

Just listen on iPod earbuds and save yourself the money. Mixcubes are based on a 70s bookshelf or portable radio oriented audience, and it's not the 70s anymore, it's actually far worse now in terms of average consumer audio frequency response (not to mention attention span, but that's another topic entirely.)

I've gotten to the point where I don't care - if it sounds good on a variety of good systems, then it is good. If people want to listen on shit systems, that's their choice and their loss. Fuck em.

I'm pretty much with Shane here. We've all got iPods and what not - just use those for reference checking. It's what everyone else listens to stuff on anyway! I use a Macbook to check my mixes sometimes, as I know a lot of people who listen to music on their laptop.

To be honest - the mixcubes have these HUGE, horrible fucking wall wart power supplies that drove me nuts. It looks like these have internal power supplies, which is a big plus to me. For a product designed to sound like shit, I'm inclined to think Behringer can pull a product like this off rather nicely. If they price them at $200-$300 bucks a pair for the active version, I'm all in.

I just bought one c50a today for a mono real world monitor. I think it's great and it is already helping with my mixes.

Sound on sound love the krk rokits and a whole lot of other not so highly regarded pieces of gear. For the cost these things are very helpful. Somehow it both shows you little mistakes you never heard before but also forces you to focus on the bigger picture. That's in mono at least, not sure about stereo. Cheapest useful studio gear I own next to my ebow

Fuck Behringer. If you really want a frequency-limited, non-ported, mix reference speaker, get a single Avantone Mixcube. The one with the built in power supply is only $240.
