Benighted

As a matter of fact I've been playing guitar for 4 years, and I write alot of music as well (not lately, though, because school is so time consuming). I never said the guitar parts in Benighted are easy. On the contrary, I find that some of Opeth's acoustic parts are actually kinda tough, (such as the "storm cloud" part of The Twilight Is My Robe). No, the riffs aren't exactly simple, though I don't find them to be very complex either, since much of it us just upward and downward picking, with changing bass notes. This still doesn't make them memorable. It's kinda like Steve Vai's music. He is without doubt good at guitar and plays some pretty tough stuff, but I still don't find it to be worth the time of day. My opinion is that they should make progressive acoustic songs, like To Bid You Farewell, (Credence is kindof progressive too, though I find that one to be the weakest song on MAYH).

You skip songs on an Opeth album, good god man!

It seems that both of you would love anything that had the name "Opeth" tagged onto it. If Mikael recorded himself taking a shit, you would call it revolutionary and beautiful in an unorthodox yet realistic way.

I think it is strange that you people praise Opeth for their complexity when they make complex songs, then praise them for their simplicity when they make simple songs.
