Biggest Disappointment -- Anthrax - We've Come For You All / Soilwork - Figure # 5

Most Anticipated release of 2004 -- TESTAMENT , Exodus , Death Angel , Damageplan (hey , I am curious, sue me) , Fear Factory

I'm gonna stick with the best of 2003...too many to name otherwise.

Dream Theater, Train of Thought.
Dimmu, DCA
Nevermore, EOR
Opeth, Damnation

Best shows;
Opeth/Porcupine Tree
Hypocrisy/COB/Nevermore/Dimmu

Can't narrow down a song...sorry guys...too many!!

Oops...forgot this part;

Most anticipated releases of 2004;

Death Angel, Testament, Hypocrisy

Most anticipated tours of 2004,

TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL, and RUSH!!!!!!!

Album: Mors Principium Est - Inhumanity

Song: Nightrage - Glow Of The Setting Sun

Gig: Dimmu Borgir, Nevermore, Children of Bodom, Hypocrisy @ The Great American Music Hall in San Franscisco.

Helloween slays. \m/ Rabbit kinda sucked, though.

Best album: Above the Ashes, Ulysses Siren. Originally recorded in 85 and 87, released last year...amazing Bay Area Thrash. Can't believe these guys never made it big.

Best song: "Paschendale," Iron Maiden, from Dance of Death. Their best epic since "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" - amazing orchestration. Close second to Overkill's "Unholy," from Killbox 13 - great old-school thrash.

Best Gig: Without a doubt, the Bay Area Thrash Festival. Short but excellent performances from Impaled, Vio-lence, Death Angel (stole the show), Testament, and ROB FUCKIN HALFORD. Also some other bands, that kinda sucked...still a fantastic show. Iron Maiden at the Chronicle Pavilion and Halford/Testament at the Avalon were also kickass concerts.

Most anticipated releases of 2004: The new Death Angel will own everything, except for possibly the new Judas Priest. We alredy know Exodus is going to slay, Testament will probably do another solid release (though not on a Gathering level), and if Kreator comes out with something new, it will rock.

Most anticipated tours of 2003: The Priest world tour, the Nevermore headliner, and the Iced Earth/Children of Bodom/Symphony X tour (if it happens). Oh, and whatever Death Angel does.

EEEE-GGGAAAAAAAKKKKK!!!!!!!! :OMG: :guh: :yow:
How can you say that? Somebody call me a doctor or bring me a beer
(or play me the new Exodus CD Tempo Of the Damned!!!!!! :D )
Mikkey Dee's on that record and their latest drummer played with U.D.O.
and Accept! And we're talking about Helloween!!!

Feh. It sounds like they're trying to do Keeper 2 again, and failing..nad hell, I didn't even like Keeper 2 that much (too happy & cheesy). There's some fun songs, but overall, give me Keeper 1 and Dark Ride any day...or how about WALLS OF FUCKING JERICHO?!

....Vital Signs weak....
....cold...feeling cold......Sun is going down....And theres no tomorrow
...Sun is going down...Going down on me....Sun is going down
(One of my favorite songs from the last Helloween disc)

Departed. \m/

Vio-Lence stole the show too! :bah: :bah: BAH!

They were awesome, but Death Angel was just fucking INCREDIBLE. The combination of old-school thrash played at way above album speeds, Mark's excellent vocals (I can't believe he can still sing that high) and the crowd participation made that one of the best performances I've ever seen. Too bad it wasn't longer...:erk:

Album: Amon Amarth--Vs. The World

Song(s): Tomorrow turned into yesterday, Trains, Dr. Death, Gehnna, Take Away, Blacklist, enough, I'm already cheating. Resurrection, Bloodfed, okay! I'll stop.

Nevermore Cd release party....

favorite old material this year, Human Factor, Fire Down Under, Narita, Symbolic, Fifth Angel, Low. Low would have been my favorite this year for older material.

And Mark Osegueda's notorious lengthy speeches between songs....
He practically gives the Gettsyburg Address after some of 'em.
God can Mark TALK....!! I swear to there's room for another 3-4 songs in there if you can get him to stop for awhile...

As for Helloween..... they suck. I'm sorry, I'm trying to find a nice way to say it, but its true. they need to stop making records. just one person's opinion....

Easily! After a song, he'll start rambling on and on and on and on and fuckin on,
it's almost too funny when you get to drink beers and watch DA play.
Remember when Death Angel was getting huge back in what 91? with
"Room For a View" and they were beginning to use "D.A." as their name to
expand themselves and that just imploded into The Organization which was
pretty cool methinks, looks like I am starting to pull an "Osegueda" here,
anyways....next song.....And here's the part where Mark will talk some
more and maybe thank the audience and then they'd start the song.
But hell, you gotta love it. And he's not changed at all in all those years!

Death Angel Man, Death Angel.

Yeah, now that you mention it, Mark did talk a lot. It's funny cause when I hear him on the radio (Metal Zone) he doesn't really say that much, but at that show...Christ.

Keeper 2 has some major cheese. Check out Rise and Fall...that's the worst. Save Us and We Got the Right have a fair amount too, and though I like Dr Stein and Eagle Fly Free, they, too, share the happy power metal vibe. The title track is cheesy too, but in a more epic kind of way than the happy weird thing.

I guess the fundamental problem, though, is that the riffs are weak. Keeper 1 has that cheese too, but it has fucking speed metal riffs from hell. Look at Future World - cheesiest lyrics ever and such an over-happy sound, but that intro riff is UN-FUCKING-GODLY.

Anyway, Keeper's not bad or anything. Just...decent. Overrated. Same way I feel about Reign In Blood...doesn't deserve classic status, especially when the band's done so much better stuff.

Time of the Oath rocks...first Helloween I bought. The title track, Steel Tormentor, and We Burn are classics.

I was supposed to be going to that Helloween show in worcester but now I have to take a road trip to Michigan to visit family. My plans got all screwed up. Keep us posted on how the show was. I love the palladium! :headbang:

Hell Awaits, South of Heaven, and Seasons In the Abyss (I don't have Show No Mercy for some reason, which I'll correct as soon as I get some money) all slaughter Reign In Blood. When I listen to Reign, the first thing I hear is Angel of Death, and that of course kicks insane amounts of ass. Then after that...it's just speed for the sake of speed. The riffs aren't particularly unique or interesting...it's fun stuff, but really forgettable and it tends to blend into the background. A song like Born of Fire is fast and INTERESTING, but most Reign In Blood is just repetitive. Until you get to Raining Blood, which of course rules; but nothing in between those two songs grabs my attention that much. Altar of Sacrifice is pretty good.

So yeah, I much prefer the three I mentioned...Hell Awaits is nearly as fast throughout as Reign, and has some really excellent, almost Dark Angel-ish technical playing. South of Heaven slows it down some, but not to the point of reaching the far end of boring - the riffs are still there, and they've discovered a new melody. And Seasons takes SoH to the next level, refining the ideas on that album (like Metallica did with Lightning-->Puppets, for instance) and coming up with what I think is Slayer's best (not to mention last good) album.

Yeah, I see your point about Keeper 2. I don't have any problem with epic metal, seeing as how I love Keeper 1 and Blind Guardian. But the guitarwork on that album just never managed to hook me; if I want German power metal, I'll stick to Running Wild and Grave Digger (or how about the shitload of other awesome stuff Helloween released?) But hey, each to their own.
