here you go,

As much as I love Enter the Grave, Watershed is an album that means more to me personally. Although, the one thing it reminded me of, I now try to forget sooo..... :erk:

I would never be able to construct such a list mostly cuz there would e a lot of blanks but I know I actually have to put Black future in right before Infected Nations. Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna prepare my rape-shield

Reusing riffs that're up to 20 years old, retreading old ground, claiming that it's a progressive thrash masterpiece and on a similar note, suddenly claiming that it's thrash when in the past Robb claimed MH were never a thrash band... well, it didn't bode well. Listening to it now, most of the songs haven't aged gracefully in 3 years - only A Farewell to Arms and Wolves really hold my interest anymore (I'll admit, Wolves is incredible). The fact that they had the guts to big it up as "the thrash metal equivilant to Pink Floyd's "The Wall"" made me laugh my tits off even back then, since it's not thrash and isn't quite as progressive as everybody has made it out to be - No More Color, Mental Vortex and even Black Future are more deserving of such a generic tag.

On the reusing riffs thing, I'm probably the only person who noticed half of them - but for an easy one, listen to the solo section in Aesthetics of Hate and then the ending to Forbidden Evil by Forbidden, it's almost identical. And Forbidden Evil was written 22 years beforehand. Top that off with the pre-chorus riff to Clenching the Fists of Dissent being exactly the same riff to technocracy's How We Die from 2001 and I was laughing my bollocks off - they abuse old riffs almost as much as dave Mustaine.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Machine Head's first two albums, a bunch of stuff from The Burning Red and Supercharger and Through the Ashes of Empires is great too. But The Blackening is nothing more than a big joke to me these days.

I think its a good album, but just GOOD. Nothing more than that. Don't we have a topic about this actually?

I realized earlier while making my list that most of my music has been released within the last five years, but that's including the ones with wrong dates.... I need more old music.

i knew that about ''aesthetics of hate'' vs '' Forbidden Evil'', because that was posted in the '' music that sounds like other music'' thread. and if it's only 1 riff in clenching the fists of dissent and that part in aesthetics of hate, then what's the problem? or are there more riffs that are similar to others?

and maybe there are some riffs that sounds like other riffs that are like 20 years old, i think it's also pretty cool that machine head was able to make 10+ minutes songs interesting.

i'm not saying it's new, i'm saying that i think it's quite awesome, i mean, there are those songs which seem to last forever and which can't keep me interested. this is actually not the case with any of the 9/10 minute songs on The Blackening.

end of discussion, because it won't bring us anywhere
