Best friend of a SM57

Which is your favourite mic to combine with a SM57 for tracking guitars?
And which way do you place/process/mix them together?

Right now, Beyerdynamic M201TG, mixed 50/50 and I treat it as a single track.
Sometimes it's nice to drop one off to make dynamic changes inside the song, say verses with only one mic on and riffs & choruses with both.
Other processing depends on the song and sound but at least the usual hp/lp.

Another 57, 421 and/or a 414 are the ones I've tried and liked most. E606 also works surprisingly well, considering how bad it sounds on it's own IMO.

Anyone ever try a beta with a normal 57? I did this last time, I'm not entirely sure of my results, though I must double check the phase of it. I always thought it was just a 'hotter' 57

Sennhieser E606/609/906 goes nice with a 57 imo.

Nope. If you want to use a SM7 on anything that isn't loud then you're going to need a quiet preamp with a decent amount of gain.

I got a 421 a month ago... in fact, I got a few 57's last year, and I've never tried any with another 57. I'm so dam lazy, I just haven't bothered micing my cab up.

It's on the list of things I really need to get round to doing in the next few weeks!
