Best interface under a grand ?

Onyx 400 as long as you don't need more than 10 simultaneous inputs! :erk: Otherwise I'd say Focusrite Saffire 26, or maybe one of the new Steinberg interfaces (those are unproven, though)
 
For the record I'm selling my Saffire Pro 26i/o (near mint with box n shit) for $600US...

From what I've heard the Steinberg interfaces have some driver issues that need to be resolved. That was just one thread on gearslutz though.. which is too bad, the feature set is great and they look slick. With a few more months they'd probably be a safe bet.
I'm enjoying my Mackie Onyx 400F though. Pretty solid little unit but I think I might be upgrading to something else right away.. something with ADAT. I might be interested in selling it for what I got it for.
