Need to expand audio interface - suggestions please!

Hey guys. So I currently have a Mackie Onyx 1620 with the firewire card. I'm pretty much maxed out on my channels and would like to get another interface to expand my options. The Onyx has 16 channels, but only 8 channels have pre's and phantom power. I would like to use room mics when tracking drums but I have no more channels left with phantom. I'm already using two of the drum mics without pre's! So could any of you suggest a budget friendly firewire interface that would give me maybe an additional 8 more channels so I still have room to grow? Just so I have the options, can you suggest a piece of gear in the $400-$700 price range? Thanks guys.

I like Focusrite - good suggestion. I actually just realized I should probably just get some preamps and put them on the stereo channels of the Onyx console. Thanks for the suggestion.
