Sin After Sin's really good, but it doesn't seem to stand out in any way. It's just... solid. No major flaws, but no real highlights either imo.

Awesome Joan Baez cover though. :p

Painkiller is pretty decent, but isn't a patch on the earlier stuff for me. My personal favourite is 'Screaming for Vengeance', every track is classic on there, I love it. Got the live DVD too which rocks!

Sad wings of destiny and HBFL are very close seconds.

I'm not the biggest fan of JP but I love Painkiller and feel it's one of the best Metal albums. And Love Defenders of Faith, so I picked those 2.

British Steel, SFV and Angel of Retribution are good 2. Never heard the rest.

1. sad wings
2. stained class
3. sin after sin
4. rocka rolla
5. defenders of the faith

any and all aspiring musicians should be forced to listen to the top 2 a hundred times before writing or playing a note.

What's so great about Sad Wings? Óbviously was a major (if not THE major) influence in steering metal away from its blues oriented roots, but it hasn't aged well IMO. Dreamer Deceiver is brilliant, probably my favourite song of theirs, and Tyrant is good, but songs like Genocide and The Ripper are just cheese, and by modern standards just dumb metal stereotypes.

nonsense, it's pretty much note-for-note perfect.

It's either Sad Wings of Destiny or Stained Class. Sin After Sin is also really good.

I would say Painkiller, British Steel and Killing Machine (or Hell Bent for Leather if you prefer) are all overrated.

I've never heard Rocka Rolla. :(

I don't recall where I got into a discussion over the song "Last Rose of Summer", but I have to say that it has really grown on me lately. Listening to it on its own outside the context of the rest of the album gives me a whole lot more appreciation for it. I definitely count it as among the album's better songs now.

Painkiller and Nostradamus are the only ones I've heard. I didn't really like Nostradamus and I find Painkiller tolerable. I don't go back to it often I only heard it give or take two times perhaps. I guess I'll have to find some time to figure out which album is the best one. Please rec me the better albums by them and I'll check them out.

The two obvious choices here are Sad Wings and Stained Class.
