i think he was considered to be among the "7 wise people of the __??earth??_Greece???_" or sth

~mel~( ignorance  )

According to my dictionary (i might do a bit more research on him later these days):

Thales of Milhtos (?) (624-546) scientist and philosopher; one of the 7 wise men of the Ancient Greece, founder of the ionian school and of natural philosophy.

I rememeber a theorima from a greek guy, it involved a triangle...no but the guy was Pitágoras or whatever his name is in greek or english.

yep it was Pitagoras.....el cuadrado de la hipotenusa es igual a la suma de los cuadrados de los catetos de un triángulo!
thats it....now you all know Pitagoras Theorem in Spanish, very useful for partys and days at beach

i thought it was a2 + b2 = c2 (squared)?????????????? I followed ya for a while ther vic, the measure of the hyptoneuse is equal to the measure of the something in a triangle......

There are many craters on the moon, and I believe a band named after each of them. Therefor Thales is a very very unoriginal name or at least you could say NOT the best name for a band. Another popular one I've been reading that is just plain trite is Eternal Tears of Sorrow. Are you shitting me? This is similar to a band at the height of the alternative Seattle era deciding on "Yellow Dog Biscuit" for their name where all the members would wear VANS sneakers, flannels and cool ripped jeans.

I've always thought Dark Tranquillity was an excellent name, describes what they are. Also pretend you haven't heard it 10 billion times and aren't aware of shit like "republica, apocolyptica, (insert your band's name here)ica and METALLICA is an awesome name.

well I like Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, and some people find Dark Tranquillity stupid as a name....so nobody shitting on you fella!

Now as for those "apocolyptica"....well Apocalyptica was created just to make covers by Metallica, so was an interesting aproach to get a name ending with ica....and that's the reason...and btw, Apocalyptica DO rule!!!! they also were invited by Metallica to support them on the S&M performance....

btw: you are the same nerd that once ranted on the BG mailing list???

It makes no difference how good Apocalyptica is. I already knew all that you said believe it or not. The point is that Metallica is a pretty awesome name for a band IMAO and hearing any other band with "ica" at the end de-emphasises the coolness of their name, even if the band is actually playing Metallica covers with Cello's. (Which some of those songs did sound kinda cool, nothing I would be dicked into buying but.....) Anyhow I think the best names would be similar to the ones I mentioned, describing the music somehow and sounding cool. What better criteria is there for a bands name?

No I'm not the nerd on some BG mailing list. I know this b/c I could only have been the "God" or something similar, not the nerd.:D But anyways I dont' do mailing lists and dont know what "BG" stands for. (Blind Guardian?) We did have a discussion about Megadeth with Melancholia a month ago or so, do you remember? I asked about TWNAH..... Ah....speaking of that, Megadeth is a great band name. Stands for raw power and high energy and that's what their music is.

Yeah, I remember....but there was a guy in Blind Guardian mailing list with the same nick....and the last post about metallica reminded me a lot to that moron...sorry!!!

as for Megadeth it stands for the amount of dead ppl after a nuclear disaster...and yeah, it's cool!!!
