How do you memorize 70 CDs worth of music to the point where you can arrange them to your taste? I remember maybe 6-7 bright albums of the year :confused:
ps: Music you have in common includes Bloodbath, Mors Principium Est, Cannibal Corpse, Nightingale and Sigh what a collection lol

This year has been so awesome it was almost painful to do a top 10 because I wanted to include so many albums. I could also have done a top-35 pretty easy this year but I am old school so top 10 it is! Right now the list looks like this:

1. Triptykon - Melana Chasmata
2. Behemoth - The Satanist
3. Grand Magus - Triumph and Power
4. Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen
5. Judas Priest - Redeemer of Souls
6. Vader - Tibi Et Igni
7. Satanic Warmaster - Fimbulwinter
8. Abigor - Leytmotif Luzifer
9. Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain
10. Belphegor - Conjuring the Dead

Honourable Mentions

Bloodbath - Grand Morbid Funeral
Vanhelgd - Relics of Sulphur Salvation
Skogen - I Döden
Necros Christos - Nine Graves
Black Anvil - Hail Death
Just Before Dawn - The Aftermath

Search "folder, name: 2014" came to rescue, now I see it wasn't the best of years. The positions outside top7 are almost in no particular order

1. Hannes Grossmann — The Radial Covenant, strongly recommended;
2. Revocation — Deathless;
3. Cannibal Corpse — A Skeletal Domain, as expected, was only worried about the new producer who butchered Deicide '11 and Six Feet Under '12, did fine this time;
4. Exodia — Hellbringer, completely out of the blue, melodic thrash as it should be done, recommended;
5. Opeth — Pale Communion;
6-7. At The Gates — At War With Reality, solid comeback;
6-7. Exodus — Blood In, Blood Out, top stuff apart from the Scrooge McDuck on the vocals;
7,5. Bloodbath — Grand Morbid Funeral, hasn't quite settled yet, but I think it should be around here in the end;
8. Conquering Dystopia — Conquering Dystopia, Jeff Loomis :kickass:, Alex Webster :kickass::kickass:;
9. Misery Index — The Killing Gods;
10. Grace Disgraced — The Primal Cause Womanumental, has a nice Schuldiner vibe to it, recommended;
11. Omnihility — Deathscapes Of The Subconscious; ultra :kickass:
12. Hour of Penance — Regicide;
13. Witherscape — The Inheritance;
14. Vader — Tibi Et Igni;
15. Devin Townsend — Casualties of Cool;
16. Desecresy — Chasmic Transcendence;
17. Aborted — The Necrotic Manifesto;
18. Beneath — The Barren Throne, good atmospheric Icelandic death metal;
19. Kypck — Imya Na Stene (The Name on the Wall);
20. Divine Chaos — A New Dawn In The Age Of War.

The disappointments of the year:

1. Bloodshot Dawn — Demons :( :( :(;
2. Origin — Omnipresent;
3. Devin Townsend — Z2;
4. Abysmal Dawn — Obsolescence;

Not much...

1. Decapitated - Blood Mantra
2. At The Gates - At War With Reality
3. Döden - I Döden
4. Anathema - Distant Satellites
5.

30. Bloodbath - Grand Morbid Funeral

Looking forward to 2015 with new Meshuggah, Ghost, Swallow The Sun, Paradise Lost and hopefully Ages get their full lengt out.

2015 will also bring the new Monstrosity (!!), Churchburn, Ophidian I, Blotted Science, Sigh, probably Dying Fetus albums and maybe Necrophagist will post something in facebook :lol:

Considering I don't listen to a lot of different bands I don't think I could even do a top 10 :p

But some albums that I've loved in no particular order:

Vader - Tibi Et Igni
Cannibal Corpse - A Skeletal Domain
Sabaton - Heroes
Indica - Shine
Epica - The Quantum Enigma
Behemoth - The Satanist

I moved from Massachusetts to Washington in July and now work at home, which seems to have had a negative affect on my listening habits...too many distractions too often. While that means I don't have a "best of" order ready, I can still produce a list of what I've enjoyed throughout the year...

While some releases fell short of expectations (e.g. Elbow, Mogwai, Usnea, Wye Oak, Zola Jesus), and a few LPs would've been stronger EPs (e.g. Blueneck, Septicflesh, Tombs, Trap Them), I'm sure there are plenty of releases that I missed or didn't pay enough attention to...also, that new Cult of Fire EP comes out soon and that's almost guaranteed to be highlight.

Case in point, haven't heard any of following...

2)Taurus – No/Thing
5)Obake – Mutations
6)Doombringer – The Grand Sabbath
11)Stargazer – A Merging to the Boundless
12)Amogh Symphony – Vectorscan
14)Teitanblood – Death

Me too, can't dig anything if there's no time for reflection.

winters_epilogue your tastes are grrrr8.

The answer to the above, here anyways...is I am just a giant music nerd. I'm almost always listening to music. There is not a release on my lists that I haven't listened to at bare bare bare bare minimum 3 times, and there are quite a few i've spun at least that many times from this year that didn't make the cut.

Forgot my EP list!

Thanks, man!

I don't understand how you all manage to listen to (and like) so many bands

My answer is similar to PhlegethonVeins'. I've been working as a web developer for about a decade now and one of the perks has been the ability to seek out and play music constantly. So, if an average day has me finding out about one or two artists and adding their release to Spotify or Bandcamp, a playlist builds pretty quickly. (Example: As I type this right now, I have the new Bethlehem album spinning, which I found out about on another person's best of 2014 list, which I read during a lunch break last week.)

I'm sure I could pair down the list to fifteen or twenty releases if I really thought about it, but having variety is one of my favorite parts of being a music fan.

I have been listening to metal since I was about 5 years old...You kind of discover new bands along The way...
And I read alot of metal magazines and online fanzines to keep myself updated on new releases and such. I am also constantly searching for new bands. I would get bored to only listening to a few bands no matter how good they are.
