Best quiet PC power supply

Corsair/Antec get the good wrap from what I've seen, but its best to check out johnnyguru.com and see for yourself

Going to possibly be running a dual GPU ATi card with my current nVIDIA 275gtx thrown in for PhysX and CUDA.

Cheers bibz.

Haha nice dude. I hope the drivers work out in that situation. Im running a seasonic x-750 (seasonic make corsair PSUs), which is the best supply i've ever had- it has an amazing effiiency rating and is extremely quiet- silent in fact when the pc is idle (measured in an anechoic chamber).

Thats not going to be enough for this though. I'd recommend the 1000w HX from corsair (very similar to the seasonic), so just an upgrade of your current gear really. You're going to be looking at a 400w (rough) pull just for the 5970, and then another 200w for the nvidia to draw.

Your rooms air con will be working over time :D The ati's are very big cards indeed, and I still cant believe how much heat they woof out of the back.

I use the brute force method. I attach a cable tie to the fan grill and feed the tag back into the fan to stop it spinning. Power supplies lost 0.

Yeah man, it's tremendous. I nearly burned my hand by feeling the heat coming back off the exhaust of the case. That alone is making me wonder whether skipping a generation may be worth it. Turns out the 5970 I bought was faulty, so the option is to either get a refund or an exchange, and grab the new PSU while at it.

@Marcus: Man, you don't know the half of it. The amount of outboard that's going to be drawing juice here, the least of my concerns is another power supply . Fortunately the current work load can cover it. For the bands that cheap out I can always fall back on ITB mixing!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I suppose I can stick with Corsair. I quite like them and haven't had any issues whatsoever. In fact when quick power cuts in the area caused everything else in the house to cycle, the PC stayed on.

Hope you can get yourself a refund/exchange on that one card there, Ermz. Would be a crying shame to have a castrated 5970.

Running an Enermax here. Quiet as death, powerful as hell.... and goddamn expensive, too!

One day, I will do a write up on my custom near-silent PC.

Cool stuff Glenn.

I opted to just refund my money with the card and not grab a new one. I might save it till Q1 or Q2 next year when the single chip 8 cores come out. Just do a mass PSU/CPU/GPU upgrade then!
