Beyerdinamic TG Drum Set opinions

There is nothing wrong with using these types of condensers to close mic drums in a live setting, these mics are designed with a very tight pickup pattern (similar to shure's beta 98s) which has very little bleed and optimal feedback rejection. They are great because they are very low profile, which makes them easy to place and the drummer less likely to hit them.

I haven't used these actual mics, just the beta 98s, but I did remember seeing a review in a live sound mag I read

I'm a fan of the audix drum mics myself.. the dp7 kit is roundabout the price range http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DP7/

but really I think you'd be perfectly happy with that beyerdynamic mic pack.

If you want to save money, put together your own kit from used mics. Ebay is great for mics.

SNARE
Shure SM57
Audix i5 (generally a little cheaper used)

TOMS
Shure SM57
Audix i5

KICK
Shure Beta52
Audix D6

OVERHEADS
Rode NT5
MXL 603s (very cheap!)
Oktava MK012

^in my opinion, overheads are more critical in recording than live. if you want to record, buy the best ones you can afford.
