i need a nice synth sound isnt cheesey or too over the top

I like some of the emperor synth but alot of it is too epic for what im doing.

Something like the new Wodensthrone record.

ive got Reason at the moment but could always get more programs or plugins

i know this is very vague but could someone suggest some nice dark sounding not too cheesey synth

How about you use whatever you feel like using instead of giving into these bullshit "norms"? Just because band X uses synth Y doesnt mean you have to use it too. Be creative, be original, walk your own path, find your own sound!

Sorry for being harsh, I'm just tired of people following too much in others' footsteps.

True! They probably would have used something better if they made the same record now :)

as for Black metal and synths:

this is kinda funny considering the usual content of this fourum is 99% "norms" and people desperately chasing those "norms" like their life depends on it.

i think emperor used a korg m1 or something similar, i'm not sure,
however there is a digital emulation of it:

you could also check out this one:

it has got an emulation of the roland d-50 pad sound that was used in burzum - rundgang um die transzendentale säule der singularität ( such an awesome song name :goggly:)

I think Emperor used this one alot:

Its still in Ihsahns studio.

Is it funny? I don't think so :)

Let them chase those norms as if their life depends on it, fine, but if you don't walk your own path, you'll never discover anything new.

Oh I agree with you 100%,

i just found it amusing, a statement about such norms on one of the most "norm-ish" sites i've ever seen.

:)

EDIT for the OP : yeah i would highly recommend getting the deal on AAS Ultra-Analog
