Hey everyone I have a question regarding Black Metal. I am a huge fan of Black Metal but many of my favorite BM groups have almost indiscernible guitar parts due to the intense distortion. What's the deal? Some of these bands sound incredible and have some of the best guitar parts I've ever heard but you can only make out like half of the notes they play. I always get frustrated when bands have good guitar parts that are too distorted and too poorly defined to make out...I feel like I cant take in the full song and all the emotion they were trying to convey...

The distorted riffs are a part of the emotion being conveyed in black metal. I don't see how you can be a huge fan of black metal and not tolerate that kind of guitar sound.
