Blast Beats in Bathory

In songs like Total Destruction, Possessed, and Massacre, it seems that the snare falls on the downbeat. I know that in most European blast beats, it is on
the upbeat. Am I hearing this wrong, or is that the way it was played?

I'm pretty sure that it is, however, I'd have to check again to be sure. There are plenty of blast beats in which the snare falls on the upbeat, as well as ones where the snare falls on the downbeat. However, it's hard to tell because of the way most black metal is mixed.

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. I think atleast on total destruction, you can hear that its suppose to be on the upbeat, but I guess the way its mixed confuses my brain to think it's on the downbeat
