Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera

let's face it, most of the stuff we listen to on these boards is comedy in one way or another ... and the more seriously the band takes themselves ... the funnier it is :loco:

No offense J as I really dont care for BG, Somewhere far beyond is funny, but one could say the same thing when listening to your beloved Graveland.

Dude, of course he is. Haven't you seen photos?

The only song I would think is too long is "And then there was Silence". I mean, it's 14 minutes or something.

Otherwise, Battlefield, Under the Ice, Sadly Sings Destiny, Soulforged, Precious Motherfucking Jerusalem....!!!! All glorious masterpieces that make me want to sit on the back of Halford's motorbike and hold on tight to his ears.

I want to know is he in on the joke or not? Same goes for Blind Guardian.

Speaking of Halford, Resurrection is a hell of a good album. As much as I dont want to, I find myself raising my fist up to metal heaven whenever listening to said album.

Sorry, missing something here, what would be the joke with Blind Guardian? Their obsession with Tolkien? I think of that as a plus.

I dont know, how cheesy BG's music is? I do think they are quite talented. And i actually dislike Tolkein--I know I am the only one in metal, dont think ill of me because of it.

Darken looks like he was in the Viking Spinal Tap. how could anyone go out into the woods in a viking outfit and take promotional pictures without cracking a smile?

Best BG album ; PUNISHEMENT DIVINE , BATTLEFIELD , PRECIOUS JERUSALEM , AND THEN THERE WAS SILENCE .. good tracks !

Am i the only one who thought that whole Demons & Wizards thing sucked?

No, I thought it was poo. Listened to it once, about the same time as Nightfall In Middle-Earth :loco: haven't been able to motiviate myself to dig it out again...

It makes me want to get their last live album now....should I?
yes.

those of you who have known me since well before I ever started posting on this board know I have a real problem taking fantasy metal seriously....that goes for any of the posing, mincing and prancing stuff like black metal or rhapsody and such....but BG transcends even my ridicule with an attack that simply screams metal. Hoooo Ah!

btw manowar is teaming up w/Rhapsody for a US tour! hahahahahaha

That's the only song I found worthwhile on the disc, ther other ones lacked something I can't really pinpoint; perhaps "direction and some punch", also the production was pretty lame as I recall. Anyway I'll stick to IFtOS and NiME the times I need a power metal fix.

I thought that for a while as well, but then it all just clicked into place. I think it's because my listening tastes just expanded to the point where I could absorb the album easier.

If you think about it, Blind Guardian are much more of a progressive band than a power band. The time changes are radical, plus they don't even *think* about going the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-chorus-chorus route.

also the production was pretty lame as I recall.

Wow. It's probably the most polished album I own. I mean, when you have 70 tracks dedicated to the vocals alone, this one just BEGS to be listened to loud. It is like a WALL OF SOUND just blasting away.

"The clash of iron can be heard...". :kickass:

@lizard - I read a review for the new BG live album over at LotFP and he suggests that it's the best live album he has EVER heard. So yeah, add to the fact that I'm a fan, I really should get the album. It's just a tad expensive.
