blissful/peaceful/subdued metal

You have no idea what the fuck they were aiming for.

Yea I do. they explain it in the myspace. Aiming for a sound that "worships" Joy Divison and The Cure among other post-punks bands. Meaning they were aming for that Post-Punk meets Black Metal sound. So your simple cynical one liner did not work this time on me.:Smug:

I have been pwned by Alter! Fuck.

Die.

Bastard.

Anyway, I like Amesoeurs, but really only the first track. And you're right, it fails kind of at what it was attempting to achieve, but I think it succeeds at disparate things!

Hahaha.

Anyways, Amesoeurs really does fail and the Post-Punk area, almost seems forced. Maybe a full length will be better.

I liked the Alcest full-length better than anything else he's done (even though it's almost polar opposite...), so let's hope so!

Heh, well, I've still only listened to the first track but I was assuming the other two would be of equal quality (which is actually not a good assumption with metal albums...the best song on the album tends to be the first song on so many albums). I'll listen to the other two after I step out for a smoke and see what I think...

I REALLY want to see a band mix black metal with post-punk, namely, Joy Division's sound. I think it can and should be done!

Black Metal can not mix with post-punk. It just does not work.

where does the OP specify 'dark'?

I never usually listen to Pelican, but they are an EXCELLENT band for just... relaxing. I normally set Pelican as my alarm.
Great for waking up to. Except maybe Drought.

Oops, I was thinking of the prog thread.

Well if you like bands such as Isis and Neurosis, check out Cult Of Luna, Year Of No Light, possibly Kylesa etc. Also Red Sparowes and Gregor Samsa are pretty similar to Jesu, apart from RS being instrumental. May be worth checking out The Angelic Process too, if you like shoegaze/drone
