Borknagar

hm, somehow I don't find time to do a review of each song...
Too busy with getting ready for my trip to Sweden... wanted to fly but the put the prices 50% up, cause of the damn political shit going on at the moment! :s
Looks like I have to take my car... or train.

sure?? here (spain) nearly ALL flights have had to decrease the prices so ppl start again to get into a plane...
the most incredible one is a flight to New York for ummm lemme see, about 241 euros when normally is rated (at least october 2000) 1072 euros!!!!
that's really cheap!!!! damn I'm too tied!
fv

Father Vic, well it's the other way round here...
well I guess Sweden is more save than the US is at the moment!
Not many people fly to the US right now...

winter-frost it's only for 6 days, but I need to go!
Shortly after my return some Swedish dudes come to Germany well they do a European tour, but I will just join for Germany and Holland :) and when they return... LOL well I have some days off and I thought of going to SWEDEN... hm, maybe to England, I still have to pick up my stuff from London... and I do miss Dover a little bit and Farmham Royal...

Borknagar has had one heck of a luck with it's vocalists. They've had the three best vocalists of the metal scene of Scandinavia. Garm, Simen Hestnaes and Vintersorg are great as vocalists and also great as composers.

IMO Vintersorg sounded great on 'Cosmic Genesis' but not that good on the tracks I heard from Empiricism.

well to be honest, I was really disapointed the first time I heard trough Empiricism... 'cuz it was missing something, and u know what that something was? it was Simen! probably Simen wil never return to Borknagar, wich is sad.
I have ben a Borknagar fan longer than I have ben a Vintersorg fan, so it was a real down when Simen left..
but anyways back to the the Empiricism album; but on the second hearing the album was GREAT! haha
I have never gone trough such a change with apinion on a album in such a short while :D
Vintersorg does a really good jobb on the album, I have acctually heard that he got surprised himself on how good he did it
and now I are really looking forward to seeing them live the 18. of November :D

Does anyone else think its funny that Borknagar seem to incorporate a lot of "The Doors" influences synth wise on 'Empiricism'. Lars seems to be stuck in the retro eras.
well .. he is ;)
he really like 70th's synth music...

Well, I think Vintersorg has done an awesome job on the new Borknagar-release ... by the way, I also read all those comments which compared his voice with Simen and so on. I think it's quite hard to find an "ultimate answer" on that question ("Who is the better vocalist ?? Whatever ....) ... I personally prefer the voice of Vintersorg, but that's just my personal opinion (though I think there's no doubt about the fact that he is actually one of the most outstanding artists in the whole metal-scene !!). I think it also depends on which kind of music we talk about -- for example I just couldn't imagine Simen singing an Otyg-Song ... it's just that special kind of "trollish magic" in Mr. Hedlund's voice !!

Anyway I'm also curious to see Vintersorg live on tour with Borknagar ...

That's right Rabenkind, I don't like to compare them, I personally prefer Vintersorgs vocals too. Though Simen is great aswell.

I cannot wait until I acquire the Vintersorg cat...until this afternoon, EMPIRICISM...YES! I had only heard sound samples, and now finally to hear a full song sung by this exceptional voice!!!
