Ok I'm (supposed) to go there this Thursday for the Secrets She Kept Concert......I already asked to switch shifts with this other dude and got it OKed by my manager so I can go. I tried to help this band book this show for so long and they're finally coming.

Well I have never been to Breakers Music Hall and I got it on Google Maps but my parents are worried I will get lost or some crap so do any of you guys know:

A) Where it is and just give me general directions?

B) Is it a good venue?

And that kinda thing.......thanks :)

Google maps does it best.

Not bad -- large stage with good elevation and visibility, plus there's a small balcony/loft type of space. Plenty of parking. Don't recall smoking policy, which probably means smoke is expected.

I shot Theocracy there once.

I already google mapped it....I said it in my post lol

Thanks.....looks like a good venue. I hope I can find it ok and not get lost :)

I usually give these directions because every turn is at a traffic light, so that may make it a little easier.

1. Take I-75 S
2. Get off at Exit 233 and turn Right. You'll pass Southlake Mall on your right.
3. After about 7 traffic lights turn right onto Spur 138. There will be a Shell gas station at the intersection (a Texaco too I think)
4. Turn right at N. Main St. I think it's the next light. There will be a Cuban restaurant on the corner opposite you.
5. Breakers will on the right after a car wash. If you hit Tara Blvd you went too far.

This venue sucks bad....the sound is usually atrocious, and I don't think I've ever been there with more than 25 people there.....then most of them stay in the bar. They never promote their shows either.

They never promote their shows either.

Yeah that's not true at all. I've received numerous myspace bulletins/comments/etc on my WREKage account, they call me every week asking for me to announce shows, and the people who book there are actually making plans to come up to WREKage to promote the shows there. And that's just through one media outlet. I'm sure that they don't look at us as their only source of advertisement and that they do the same for many other sources.

Why wouldn't they promote their shows? Josh's band Prime Mover plays there a good bit, so it would kind of be bad to not promote your own show at your own venue.

2 of my friends came.....I finally drove to Atlanta alone. (easy)

But anyways......bad turnout. Like 25 people tops. And as soon as some gay scene band got done playing, everyone left and there was like 8 people for Secrets She Kept. They were awesome but the sound was horrible.

They said they will be back soon though with a longer set and a "special guest".......that's cool but they better play a different venue.

Oh well, it was still a fun night and I'm glad I finally saw them.......plus the "As Darkness Falls" riff live just made it worth it :kickass:

...yeah, that's BREAKERS for ya. Some things never change  - especially the turnout. Fridays and Saturdays have never been any better.

well that's the new promotions people there - Josh and Shelley - who seem determined to turn things around there. And more power to them if they can. But like Jon said, the 'local' crowd who comes there for the shows typically spend the entire evening in the separate bar. They rarely give a band the time of day unless it's their local heroes such as Prime Mover.

And concerning MySpace promotions... sending bulletins are about the biggest waste of anyone's time. because if you have more than a few dozen friends on your MySpace, you aren't going to notice a bulletin unless you just happen to catch it as it's sent, or unless you have the time to go digging for one.

This is why I hit up MySpace friends on their comments section. I make the ads small enough so as not to skew their page. And in all the time I've done this, I have had one negative reply from someone about placing 'ads' on their page. I summarily deleted that friend because they never came to the shows anyway. :heh:

And by the way Brian, you should expect us to be hitting up WREKage netween now and Sept 13th for the Structure of Inhumanity show also featuring Written In Blood and Halcyon Way; and also for the Wednesday night ProgPower pre-show party featuring Circle II Circle, MIDNIGHT, and Eclipsed By Sanity. I will bring demos and promos.

yeah, I'm plugging. :Smug:

Yeah they do the comment stuff a whole bunch. Actually it was sort of annoying get the same show flyer posted about 3-4 times.

As far as you guys coming in, this week and next week are not good for that because none of the student hosts will be there (myself and Mitch) and that's sort of a requirement to have guests. I don't really have a say in that, it's a station thing. Anytime after that is fair game and you can bring as many people, flyers, demos, whatever as you want. Just don't come in the night before that show...I'll be at Carcass!
