'Breaking out of the monitors' sound?

I hear this in deathcore a lot, particularly on downbeats, usually the part where there's a breakdown with the entire band playing the lowest notes on their instruments. It sounds like they sometimes put a bassdrop there too to strengthen the effect.



If you listen at 1:10, it has the effect I'm talking about. It sounds like the mix is trying to jump out of the monitors but something is containing it. Would this sound I'm describing happen to be a buss compressor working extremely really hard to push down everything?

Sounds like a ton of compression and limiting to me. Like they goosed the volume of almost everything in the mix and it's just nailing the bus compressor and/or limiter. There's a bass drop too, which is distorting, which is basically a dead giveaway on the "abusing the limiter" thing.

if you are serious about really wanting this just automate the masterfader that it goes beyond 0db for a few sec's

Yeah I think he's talking about the clipping. I always manage to get that when I leave my bass drop out of the mastering chain. That's how you can get that over the top shit.
