With those papers, I think they tend to accept the overall concept of mass immigration and multiculturalism but ride the wave of outrage over specific scandals, when the powers that be deem that acceptable. That might just be part of the newspaper format though. The Daily Mail I see a bit like a horror movie or porn. People get off over being offended, I don't see it as serious.

the mail pushes the anti-immigration agenda absolutely relentlessly and in my area i reckon it's THE main reason why there's such a surge of anti-immigration feeling (for good or ill). i don't think people take the tabloids all that seriously, but a lot of people seem to treat the mail as scripture.

I'm not really familiar with the impact of newspapers, it's mostly to do with different generations to mine.

I think the DM just does things to sell though. Contrast that with the guardian, which isn't even a proper profit seeking venture, it's a kind of a trust set up by ideological liberals.

staffordshire/cheshire border. and yeah you're right, it could be argued that i'm mistaking symptom for cause, but it goes both ways i think - the mail is definitely consciously tory and has continued to be so even at times when the country's been at its most liberal (not very, but still), and it often goes beyond cameron in stoking up right wing agendas 'n shit. either way i see a lot of people who aren't particularly political or aware of the paper's biases just parroting its views because they've decided it has a reputation for being the most reliable newspaper or w/e.
