I LOL'd when the interviewer asked about presets and plugins.

I like his philosophies towards music, always have ever since back in the day on ss.org. I don't care if what he does isn't "how it's done", and I've always dug that. However, I've always ALWAYS hated his fans, copy-cats, and suck-ups, to the point where they have actually stopped me liking his music in the past

+1. I really like how he tells people to use their ears and to stop taking every little bit of advice they might get as a newbie as doctrine. Focus on what sounds good to you and your music, not trying to just copy everyone else's stuff.

Oh, and I also found it hysterical when the interviewer gave Misha a copy of his band's CD. Such a shameless plug and VERY unprofessional! I hope Misha uses it as a coaster or a urinal-cake.

But yeah, I have people who chat to me from time to time, but ONLY to ask me about settings. One of them, who is a relative's friend, only EVER talks to me when he's asking for settings. Not tips - actual settings. I've shouted at him until I'm blue in the face telling him that I cannot POSSIBLY give him specifics in writing without mixing it myself, and that I can only give non-specific terms of explanation such as "hard" or "soft" compression etc, but it's never good enough.

No joke - he once opened a conversation with "Matt - bass 7, mid 5, highs 6, presence 9... is that a good tone?". I blocked him. I love helping people, I really do, I really love talking about this shit, but some people will just never grasp it.

A bit OT there but I guess what I'm saying is I share the same view points as him

It's understandable that some people that are new to this craft thinks it's just universal "secret" settings that make a mix great, and hell I even thought that when I first got started (lol), but there comes a time when you should grasp the concept that it's different for everyone and each situation is unique. Sounds like your relative's friend is rather dense.

@JeffTD - I say bring it on. I know not everyone here is going to agree with Misha and his techniques or viewpoints, so this could make for some interesting discussion and debate. Go.

It's nothing about his techniques, just the end result and the fact that I don't think he actually practices what he's saying. He comes off as a really genuine dude but I think this interview was pretty hypocritical, all things considered.

Good interview and even the boyinaband guy with his strange mannerisms did a good job with some good questions.

I'm always surprised that Misha never comes across more geeky in his interviews, he is always so blasé about the details.

No, I'm not making fun of him for his speaking condition, but the fact that he knows and caught that mistake proves how nerdy he is.

I have had this picture made from Twitter since about 5 months ago.
The reason I commented on his picture was because I was surprised someone else did that for their picture and it brought minor lulz.

Misha seems like a very likeable guy.

What annoys me is that the interviewer comes of like a fanboy and that's not a cool pre-condition for an interview.

Despite that, would you pass off the chance to interview [for release or personally] one of your favorite and most admired or respected musicians?

Personally, if I had the chance to meet with a person whom I respect tremendously, I would be nervous and act a little like a fanboy without realizing, even while attempting to remain cool about it.
I'd also take any chance possible to put out my own band.

The guy's just taking a great opportunity and he doesn't care enough that he might come off as a fanboy. It's the determination. :

Acting like a fanboy and taking advantage of the situation in a cheesy fashion are two completely different things. I probably would give him a demo too, but not on camera in the middle of an interview. To stoop that low to basically make [Misha] feel forced to take it is kind of pathetic. Basically he gave Misha no choice but to take it... if Misha said 'no' to him on film, he probably would have come across as a complete douche bag and people would flame him for that. It was a cheesy tactic on the interviewer's part, that's all. People hand demos to bands and labels all the time, that's not the issue... it's the way he did it that's dumb.
