Burn

I have been listening to Deep Purple's Burn all day, as I ordred it online when I picked up some gifts for the kids... Anyway I heard this record a number of years ago, sadly I never owned it. Now I do in remaster/expanded form. I'm in fucking love!!!! Your thoughts on this record?!

My fave Purple album with 'Machine Head' a very close second...absolutely fantastic album. If 'When a Blind Man Cries' had been included on the original 'Machine Head' album it would be my fave.

Some great songs on Burn, but I'm still partial to the Mach II lineup.

Burn is excellent! Coverdale really rips it up. I've been stuck on Machine Head lately because a friend of mine got the DVD Audio version of it in 5.1 surround. Man, what a difference! Sounds like it was recorded last year, not 1972.

I too have been listening to Machine Head. I have the deluxe version and ripped a copy for the car... I could listen to that everytime I get in the car... Now looks like I'll have to rip a copy of Burn as well...

I like MachII better, nut the one thing with Hughes and Coverdale-their vocal harmonies and choruses are much better and more intricate.

I like Mach II better, but in saying that, I find that Coverdale and Hughes had better vocal harmonies, and choruses..they seem to be more intricate; involved.

I have added that one to the list. I imgine I'll be using a gift card come Tuesday to pick up a copy online. Thanks for the tip.

There are also a few official live releases from the MK III era. The best, IMO, is entitled "MKIII - The Final Concerts". It contains BLISTERING versions of "Mistreated", "Smoke", and "Space Truckin". In fact, there are two versions of Mistreated and Richie really shines on both...he was THE BEST back in his prime, IMO. I love Jimmy Page, Hendrix, etc., but when it came to "light & shade" within soloing, the Man In Black was the master, bar none.

Love this album, especially the expanded version with the remixes of "Burn" and "Mistreated," the former of which is simply a ripping mix that roars out of the speakers when cranked.
