buying a house

My standards are too high relative to my comparatively low salary. Some day I'll move to a cheaper area and/or get a "real" job again in order to take the mortgage plunge. Until then, I happily continue rent. All I ever wanted was a garage to work on cars and a dedicated music room. I've had both those things for 6 years. Yay!

when did erik EVER need advice yo

actually this is one of the rare occasions that i do

nothing in particular right now though

anyway i'm still in the middle of a bidding war let's see how this goes before i say anything more

Don't sign the contract before you've had a besiktning.
Besiktningsklausul ....
Don't use Anticimex for it.

oh, and Hemnet link pls.

Is the barn-looking building the main house and other structures for guests/storage? I like it.

naw this is the main house

the barn is cool as hell however and the stone part of it has these really nice medieval-looking white stone walls on the inside as you can see on some of these pics

How do you plan to heat it in the winters? It doesn't look suited for all-year-round living. Bergvärme + waterfilled radiators would cost like 250.000 SEK for a house like that. Electrical radiators in the cold north = paying out of your ass for having only decent temperatures inside. The bathroom would also be very expensive to bring up to current standards.

Nice additional spaces, and huge outdoor spaces though.

it's certainly not suited to year-round living by modern standards but i'm fine with that

the house is cheap enough and i make enough money that if need be, i can burn away half my income on firewood and electric bills and still be ok. i've sketched out some real worst-case scenario budgets (6000+ a month in heating/electricity expenses) and it still works for me.

the long-term plan is to install a better heating solution but until then, we'll keep burning wood and work bit by bit to improve the insulation

well the bathroom as it is DOES need to go asap, that is the #1 priority. it's built with WOOD LAMINATE. even the shower area. how in the fuck.

however i don't think it has to be that expensive

all the hardware can stay, there's nothing wrong with the toilet or sink etc.

decent materials for the floor and walls are surely not that freakin' expensive either. a few tiles and some square meters of plastic flooring and shit? no problemo.

most importantly we have people within the family who know this shit and can help us with a lot of the actual work
