How much difference does a cab actually make to a speakers sound ?
Im asking this because i have 2 cabs !

1 - VHT big bottom with -p-50-e speakers (which i sometimes swap around for the celestion v30s).
2- Engl 2x12vh with celestion v30s

Ok everyone raves aboutt he V30 speakers but i pritty much hate them to be honest
I use a peavey 6505 a ts9 in front and an esp with active emg pickups.

both cabs are 2x12 cabs

the engl cab is slightly on the larger size than the vht but with the v30s sounds completely dead no nice mids no smooth trebles
just pants ! and this is with the v30s

the vht sounds lovely with either speakers

I havent tried the p-50-e speakers in the engl yet but would it make any difference if i did or is this cab just rubbish

I always just thought a cab was a cab and the speakers do all the work but im beginning to question that

what do you guys reckon what has your experiences been with different cabs but the same speakers or vice versa

haha i must be the only guy on here that prefers the p-50-e speakers to v30s, seriously confused to why anyone would choose the v30s unless they sound totally different in a 4x12 cab.

Has 5150 in Mesa Trad (smaller cab) V30
Has 5150 in Mesa Standard (larger cab) V30
Different sounds, same speakers

Has Krank Rev in Mesa Trad (smaller cab) V30
Has Krank Rev in Mesa Standard (larger cab) V30
Different sounds, same speakers

One thing to remember is that room sound is totally different than mic'd sound. Put a mic in front of the V30 and I am sure you will prefer that to the mic'd sound of the other.

already spent 2 days comparing it recorded and it sounds extremely dull
i couldnt get it to fit in a mix i found with the vht p-50-e speakers i was getting a good sound
without much effort in mic placement, with the v30s i was having to do alot of post eq
i found there was very very dull spots in the 12k range and i was having to eq these at about 10 db
just to get some clarity from the recorded v30s, Im not sure if its the engl cab or not but
im definetly not a fan of the v30s in this cab they also get there ass kicked when comparing the speakers
in the vht.

i remember checking out andys clips way back of a speaker test he done everyone loves the boogie and v30s
while i was loving the krank/eminance.

the v 30s in this engl cab if no response to my picking its all mushy and fizzy
id love to try v 30s in a 4x12 boogie cab maybe see what im missing out on.

cheers for the clips guitarhack ill need to get myself into a shop and try them out

is a peavey 6505 a bad match with v30 speakers ?

right im gonna post some clips when i get home

the vht with p-50-e speakers vs engl v30s

you guys will hear what im moaning about.

Ive been in contact with the shop that sold me the engl 2x12 they are allowing me to take it back and exchange it with something different

THANK GOD !

any suggestion ?

I think I saw Andy or Brett say they used celestion greenbacks in a marshall cab for the Pissing Razors album and I allways loved the way that one sounded so maybe you should try that, Ive been considering buying a pair to try out. Just an idea

had a listen to the clips the 5150 and little mesa clip rules !
the bigger cabs sound horrible, but yeah those clips have pritty much answered my question it seems different cabs loaded with the same speakers do sound alot different.

hmm i might try out the 2x12 mesa today sounds really nice
