I've seen them live a few times and wasn't super impressed with Cove, nor was I completely put off. But I did recently come across a bootleg performance of Cove's first show with Saosin and it was quite possibly the worst shit I have ever heard. I would have been seriously re-considering my choice with him based on that show alone.

Saosin is also the first band he ever fronted, so you have to give him at least a little bit of a credit. When he joined them it was right when they blew up so imagine going from some shitty local band being in the background, to fronting a national major act over night. Still nothing compares to translating the name. Especially Pat McGraths drumming on it...amazing.

All of their albums are stunning. At first I thought the vox were way too loud in this album too, but then I realized that it works really well.

I think it works really well for alot of bands. but not circa.
Anthony's voice sounds much better as part of the music instead of shining way high above.

don't get me wrong, he's my favourite singer, but his voice still sounds much more amazing when it's not in your face and brickwall limited.

Does anybody have ANY clue what they've done with their vocals. .They sounds perfect.

I listened a couple of places and honestly the vocals sound awful to me compared to the rest of the mix (production, not performance). It sounds like they scooped out all of the mids and then went for 30dB of compression on an 1176 or something really aggressive/obvious. And then I agree that the are way too loud, completely obscuring the other stuff going on as though this were a straight up pop band. My guess is the vocal level thing was an A+R decision though.

gee, idk, maybe a grown man with the voice of a fucking 5 year old. Like seriously he sounds younger than Beiber. I can honestly say that before this thread I never actually heard any of their music, but after that I can say, I would rather listen to brokencyde. The singer just ruins what could be very potential music. Different strokes I guess, but I couldn't listen to a vocalist whose voice is higher than most (actually all) female pop "artists".

Not true man, they werent using the right presets in their plugins. They never got an email.

I checked out that Circa Survive crap. I hated it. Sorry dudes. Not my taste at all. Vocals were very gay I thought. You can tell that the dudes in the band all own atleast two Mars Volta records.
