can someone lend me a telecaster plz

I have nothing against Telecasters . . . as long as their not used in heavy metal.

Just kidding. That's one thing I like about my Carvin. I have switches so I can switch the humbuckers to single coils. I can get just about any tone I want out of my set up. Now I'm just bragging . . .

yeah i can get coil splitting from my ibanez actually so i will probably end up using that for cleans, but the intonation is HORRIBLE :waah:

I'd say if you had to go with humbuckers, though, work with the neck pickup and dial in the tone from there. Bridge pickups will give you too much of an 80's hairband sound. Chorus, flanger, phaser, etc. effects in subtle doses can also help. Also using your delay as a "doubler" should make the sound a little punchier. New strings would also be critical. Go with Diaddario coated strings. I've recently switched to those on acoustic, but I haven't tried the electric. But the acoustic coated strings are much better sounding than the Elixir's I used to use.

True acoustic guitarists would probably laugh at me for using coated strings, but since my dog won't even listen to me play I'm not real worried about getting the most amazing tone on Earth.

youre doing a status quo tribute aren't you?

scald mick gets great clean sounds from his SG
gibson>>>>>>>>>>>>>everything else

he has a nice effects rack though :)

There are plenty of great clean tones from humbuckers . . . pretty much all of them come from a tube amp. That's the #1 thing to learn from all this.

yeah i know what my guitar sounds like pretty well by now, the neck pup on the ibanez is far too mellow for what i'm trying to achieve. though coil splitting the neck pickup so it acts like a single coil gives me my favourite clean sound... my new peavey is a really good guitar, i love it, but frankly it kinda sucks for clean. it doesn't do coil tapping and it's far too dark sounding in both positions.

but yeah thanks a lot for the string tip, i am using these dean markley signature things atm and they're just not very good. they don't really have that real shimmer even when they're brand new. i'm looking for the kind of really bright, bell-like clean sound that cuts through walls of heavy distortion...

i wish i could be trusted to adjust intonation properly >:[

I've never had to adjust intonation, and I don't think I'd try either.

Coated strings really will help with clean sounds. Elixir is good, but Diaddario's are cheaper and better. Either way, just try them. They cost a lost more but they last WAY longer, and the sound is good on them for WAY longer than normal strings. In the end they're probably actually cheaper. I know NAD's a big supporter.

Intonation is easy to adjust, you just need a tuner and a screwdriver and like 20 minutes.

As for a Tele, Mexican made Fenders are actually sorta nice, and cheap, but I'm not sure if they are good for metal. I used to call them Suckacasters because they went TWANG TWANG TWANG all god damn day, but now I certainly like them. But not for metal.

And I use Elixirs on all my basses (and my acoustic geeeeetar) except my P because that has flatwounds. They last forever and have a great tone.

I hear nad is into buying musical stuff for his pals but be careful, he's a litigious SOB and he'll sue your ass
LOLOL

look

i want it for CLEAN, not for HEAVY METAL... i thought i made that pretty clear :p i know what a god damn tele sounds like

yes this is going to be a heavy metal album, but for the CLEANS... i'm just not getting the shitz i want out of my humbucker guitars! that's it!

Yeah I would get a Strat instead honestly. You can get the twang, but you can also get rid of it. Then the only problem left is everyone's favorite single coil noise:
