Can someone please explain why bands do this?

I saw John Frank's Maryland Death Fest t-shirt last week, and joked that the festival must have sold out because I could actually read most of the logos on the back. Posers.

I was doing well until the second-to-last logo, which still makes me scratch my head every time I look at it. I can make out some of the letters in the last one, but I have no idea how the crescent-moon one says "Leviathan."

i did ok.. i'd say half wrong throughout the entire thing. I only got Nachtmystium cause of the black/death suggestion thread i started on this forum probably.
