carcass - heartwork

gothenburg accomplished everything it set out to accomplish rather quickly...not a whole lot of room for progression among that set

Unlike most I also enjoyed tracks off Swanwong as well. Its certainly a different style, but "Keep on rotting in the Free World" and "Blackstar" totally rock.

It's kinda funny how the good ol' originals almost always beats the newer bands.

At the Gates, Carcass, Dark Tranquillity and Eucharist >>>>>> other melodeath
very true. stupid regressing genre. i really should do myself a favor and pick up some older dt and eucharist, especially since i have the illegally burned cd-rs. :loco:

swansong rules. probably the coolest double-bass tone evAr.

Speaking of watered-down melodeath. The Duskfall is a swedish band that rose from the ashes of the band Gates of Ishtar, who werent great to begin with. Their latest and third album got 9.5 out of 10 in the latest issue of Rock Hard Germany. In my opinion that album is a stinking turd of third-rate In Flames circa Reroute to remain/Colony melodeath. What is my point? I don't know.. Maybe the point is that for some people it's still fresh, while to my ears it's generic and done a million times before and 10000 times better.

On-topic: Heartwork is absolutely the best Carcass album. The video for the title track made me cream my pants back in 1994.

I agree completely. I remember liking this one Gates of Ishtar song, though. "The Dawn of Flames" or something. But only the piano parts... Oh well...
