Did many of you see this?

I'm interested in Bond as cultural phenomenon, as much as I am the pretty good (on average!) film making.

I've read much (feminist!) ramblings about Bond (You know the drill - a tired and worn icon of male chauvinism, set in a world that simply does not exist anymore:Smug: ) but I'm curious as to how you all read it, if indeed at all?

I think the ramblings that hold such a view are entirely stupid. They fail to see the point of Bond, or that it is even a movie.

If you have no thoughts on this, did you like the movie?

I saw it a few weeks ago. It was pretty good as a movie: decent plot, excellent acting, and stunning locations. But as Bond, I was disappointed. The male chauvinism is all gone. In fact, almost all of the fantasy of Bond has been updated or replaced. How I long for Connery or Moore to shag a bunch of these bitches, make double entredres, and slap said bitches on their bums etc. The gadgets are all gone too; the ridiculousness of Bond is gone! I dont know, I dont think I really care to be James Bond anymore.

And whats with the gratuitous soft-porn beach scenes of Daniel Craig? I feel as if this is a Bond for women.

Oh, that Eva Green is not only a good actress, but a most stunning woman. Just seeingher all the time made it worth my while.

Bring back Roger Moore or Connery I say!

i saw it, and as a woman, let me weigh in:

it was great. it was what Bond should be. so he gets the girl (or 3) in every movie...so what? that's what he was written to be.

and besides - in CR, there is there scene where you see almost every inch of Daniel Craig naked :OMG: - you can't go wrong with naked Bond :)

disclaimer:
i also grew up with mostly men in my life, so i have a slightly skewed view of things - i have 3 brothers and 6 uncles...and only one mother, 3 aunts and a set of grandparents - so i tend to lean more toward the "guy" view of things...

if you like Bond for what he was written to be, then go see this. this is CLASSIC Bond.
if you like Bond for the "soft-core" porn of it, go see this movie.
if you want to see the scene that made the entire theatre gasp and squirm in unison, go see this movie

just my opinion...

Great movie. Takes back the suck of the last few.

The last one with Halle Barry was on cable last week; hadnt seen it since it came out. I rolled my eyes so many times, I had to turn it off. It was at least better than the one with Denise Richards. But I wouldnt fault Pierce Brosnan, just the screenplays.

I kinda thought Brosnan was born to play the role myself. I assumed he'd be signed up for many more Bond films.

From what I've heard, CR is based off of the original novels, which were more espionage-oriented rather than babes+explosions+cool gadgets-oriented. Guess you didn't get what you were expecting.

I saw this film a few weeks back. The plot was quite refreshing, as you can only go so far in the direction that they were heading previously with Pierce Brosnan. But for what it was, I took it as a strong film. Gone are the days of the Cold War when the series essentially began. Much like how Austin Powers seemed caught in time.....that era doesn't exist any longer. So to continue to draw from those elements.....I felt that a 'prequel' was in order. In all fairness to Daniel Craig.....perhaps his theatrical stage training doesn't transfer to film. But still.....I felt he was adequate for the role. At least he can act.....and is more than just a pretty face.

i thought it was great. completely different from the root girls, blow shit up and save the world concept that had been done to death. very cleverly done and great acting, especially from eva green. who is also absolutely stunning!

Sean Connery, this is hard for me to say, but...

...2006's Casion Royale is the best Bond movie ever made.

Dan Craig did a great job, he was a hell of a lot scarier and somehow simulataneosly more likeable than Brosnan. Pierce just made me want to punch him, not root for him.

I heard it was like 'pre bond' meaning its before hes a full double O agent.. and this is his first mission?

*shrug* :erk:
