Anyone know of any good cd stores in the area that carry a good metal selection? All we have in Chattanooga is FYE & Best Buy. McKay's is cool though.

Some other cool stores I like are:

Disc Exchange in Knoxville
Rhtythm Section in Gatlinburg
Avatar Records in Radcliff, KY

There's this one cool store in Athens but I forgot what it was called...they have a Fish as a logo or something

I bought In Flames - Lunar Strain and Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters there

Otherwise, FYE at the mall is the closest to me.

Well here....FYE is about the only stand alone cd store aside from the spattering of used stores.
Once upon a time there were dozens.
Find it amazing that even they have survived this long and not sure how as the few times I have been there it is empty.
Better Metal section than most ever had, though certainly not amazing.

I'm not sure if there's one near you, but the Newbury Comics near me has an amazing metal selection, and they're generally cheaper than FYE, so that's where I go for my CDs now.

I buy a lot of stuff at Circuit City/Best Buy... Good prices and a good selection...

Other than that I only buy online, as all the CD only stores are really pricy. I haven't bought a CD at FYE in years... I think I bought a CD at borders last year, that's about it...
Here in Ft. Lauderdale we have the CD collector... he has a nice selection of prog metal/rock... but I don't go there very often.

Circuit City? Who's that? :)

(From an Atlanta person...since CC no longer exists here.)

I'll scope out Best Buy's CD selection when I'm there, with the usual expectation of not finding tooo much beyond 'major' label metal releases.

Up here in Raleigh, we have a School Kids Records. They have a pretty good selection and good prices. If you are in Columbia,SC, you have to go to Manifest. They have the largest metal selection and decent prices. There is one in Charlotte too, but I haven't been there. I'm sure they're good as well.

There was a probably still is a small Schoolkids Records in Ann Arbor MI that's a bit hidden but had a decent prog rock selection. They didn't have so much metal, but I found a few nice things there including Candlemass s/t album and DT's Octavarium before the official release date (nice). However in Ann Arbor everything lived in the shadow of the treasure trove Encore.

In Boston it's Newbury Comics all the way, I hit up FYE when they have a sale only. There're a few nice used shops in the city too like Looney Tunes and In Your Ear.

Vintage Vinyl in New Jersey has an extensive metal selection and is well-worth a visit. Alas, I can't recommend their mail-order service, since I've never received a followup response on 3 CDs that I ordered and then were subsequently "out of stock." :bah:

Yeah, I used to work at FYE for about 4 years, and during that time almost of the other major CD stores closed down. I know FYE is a little pricey but least they(atleast the one I worked at) has a metal section, and can order almost anything(almost). But for the most part I use the internet.

Chicago has 3:

1. Metal Haven- Death/ Black/ Thrash and some power metal.
2. Impulse Music- Power Metal, Hair Metal, Rock
3. Rolling Stones- Rock, Metal and everything in between.

Hey DFD260, since you live down in Dayton, you're fairly close to Morristown. I've discovered a store there called, The CD Swap, and they have an OK selection of metal. They're big on the obscure 80's hard rock stuff, with some metal thrown in. The last time that I was there I ran across some Candlemass for example.

Also, there's a place in Asheville, NC that has a good reputation for having all kinds of stuff. I've personally never been there, but I think FatesFan here on the forum has. If I'm not mistaking it's called, Green Eggs and Jam, and I'm not kidding!

I forgot they still have one across from NC State (if it is still located there). Only went to that location once....had a small metal section upstairs....crap for parking which is why I never went. They used to have three or four other stores once upon a time.

Avatar Records, yes! The owner Ray is a huge PP Supporter! Support the local record (yes I said record) stores!

Aaaahh... Schoolkids. I used to be a regular there when I lived in Raleigh. I thought that I had heard that they had closed awhile back though...

That's the one I used to go to.
