let's have a Celtic Frost thread.

I only have To Mega Therion currently - and yes before you say I know I NEED Morbid Tales...working on it.

But how is their later material going beyond 1985? Does it retain the same chaotic, eerie sound? Anything of note to check out?

I thought at least you would be able to use the recomendation thread by now.

Anyway, Celtic Frost is pretty good no matter what album you get. The new one is a little dissapointment, but it's not to awful.

I prefer their Morbid Tales/To Mega Therion period. Morbid Tales is quite raw and more aggressive which is a good thing. After that they try doing doing avant-garde black metal on the next album which I dont really care for.

Celtic Frost is just amazing.

Yes they are :kickass:
the only prob with mega therion is the sound production is pretty dodged, morbid tales is also a great album, dont have any of there other stuff though

Is there new album worth getting?

I suggest you get "Into the Pandemonium"; very avant-garde, maybe pretentious even (and sometimes avant-garde to the point of being shit -- see "One in Their Pride") but with some absolutely amazing material that was absolutely FAR ahead of its time. There are a couple of songs that are in the old Frost style ("Inner Sanctum", "Babylon Fell") but the true masterpieces are the real innovative stuff like "Caress Into Oblivion" and "Sorrows of the Moon". Bands like Anathema would absolutely NOT EXIST if it weren't for this album.

^

Also obviously get Morbid Tales/Emperor's Return. I also suggest you check out Vanity/Nemesis.

One of the absolute greats. Their new cd is amazing, IMO. But, if you get it, get the limited edition digi pack thing. Bonus track is worth it. :kickass:

Agree 100% with Erik, Into the Pandemonium is my fave, actually. And I, unlike many, actually like Vanity/Nemesis quite a bit.

A bit of shameless promo, we do a drunken cover of "Return to the Eve," feel free to check it out.

It took me a LONG time to get into To Mega Therion, I don't really know why. But yeah it's great stuff, and good drinking music :kickass:
