Infernal Revulsion - Devastate Under Hallucination
Abominable Putridity - In the End of Human Existence
Defeated Sanity - Psalms of the Moribund

Death - SoP
Amon Amarth - all
Behemoth - last 2
Kreator - Enemy Of God
Dragonforce - I really like their guitar tone, regardless of what you say of their music
Hammerfall - Crimson Thunder

The best unique guitar sound I've ever heard is on the Voivod album Killing Technology. The title track kinda fools you at the very beginning of the album it kinda warps back and forth from regular sounding metal into his signature thrash sound until that song is over. The entire rest of the album he keeps that killer sound up.Noone else sounds like that.A1 fucking masterpiece. Piggy was one bad-ass guitarist..R.I.P.

Never thought about the CFH tone...it's not bad, but not a huge fan of the ridiculously scooped tones.

This may well be controversial but Randy Rhodes' tone on "Blizzard of Ozz" is just about perfect.

On the other side, I LOVE the band but I can't stand the guitar tone that Shadow Gallery persistently have on each album. It ends up sounding all over-processed and crunchy. It would sound a lot better if they tried to be a bit more natural and less forced.

Katatonia ~the great cold distance, brave murder day, discouraged ones
Opeth ~blackwater park,ghost reveries
Alice In Chains ~dirt. AiC are such a great band because every album has different guitar tone, style, production and not one riff or song sounds like another. Every AiC is written like it's going to be the bands last song.
Paradise Lost ~in reqieum,draconian times
Amorphis ~eclipse,silent waters,tales,etc...
Tristania ~ashes

probably forgetting a lot

God Macabre -the winterlong stands out as a death metal cd with just perfect guitar tone.

A lot of older euro death metal albums.
