The Extreme Music Forum's Top Recommended Albums Lists

The Cube was really interesting the first time (maybe even the second time) I listened to it, but then I realized that it's basically melodramatic goth-y metal with monotone death growls and the Maiden-riffs at their worst. It comes together in a way that's easily recognizable as their own sound, but from what I've heard they're still doing the exact same thing today.

Timeghoul's Complete Discography actually made it to #30, surprisingly. Supuration wasn't mentoined though.

Asphyx -the rack is classic and would make my top 5 Death Metal albums or favorite album in metal in general. It's a lot better than Nespithe and majority of Death Metal albums. Demilich is not essential to me.

I agree with this.

For Heavy Metal, i would vote;

Pagan Altar - Mythical & Magical
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Angel Dust - Border of Reality
Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings

Some power metal but meh.

So, is this list including traditional doom metal? It's kind of unfair to have Black Sabbath on any list, as their first 5 albums are virtually untouchable. But big LOL to Master of Reality, Vol. 4, and Paranoid higher than the Self-Titled.

No Maiden?

Ample Destruction at #1?

Paranoid should not only be higher than the other Sabbath albums, it should be at the top of this list imo.

Sabbaths first six all top the #1-5 albums on this list. Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol above any of those albums is just...

Uhh, MoR and Paranoid are way better than the s/t, as are numerous other Sabbath albums. And honestly I find much of Vol. 4 to be dull. One of those albums where I can't even remmeber what most of the songs sound like if I'm not listening to it.

If any one of you would like to pick a different group of people to poll in hopes of a better master list, I would be happy to help ;)

What should have been clarified and stressed is that people can and should vote for more than one album per band. I find it hard to believe that the voters seriously ranked Sabbath albums #1 and then ignored the rest without playing a big game of look-how-many-bands-i-like. I think that might've been unavoidable though. I personally voted for like, 7 Sabbath records in my top 30.

Not that most of the albums there aren't great, but lol.

EDIT: Get them to do thrash next. I want to see Holy Terror ranked over Metallica.

It was nice to see it there, but no Maiden = no dice. Admittedly the overwhelming majority are really strong albums, but it's still kind of ridiculous. And as much as I like Ample Destruction, I don't understand where its reputation as an absolute power metal-pioneering masterpiece comes from. Great album, but it's not nearly best-trad-metal-evar material.
