Albums with best guitar tone

I find the tone of the remastered version of that album in particular to be very annoying, and it's a shame that John Petrucci seems to have copied it perfectly in latter-day Dream Theater albums. On the other hand, the rhythm guitar tone on the demo versions included with the remaster is very good, although the solos on the demo "Holy Wars" sound like keyboards.

Honestly, even though I'm a guitar player I really don't pay attention to stuff like this. I just pay attention to the actual music. That kind of aesthetic stuff isn't really something I care about unless it's so bad that it actually detracts from the quality of the album.

I tend to be the same way (I'm a guitarist as well). I used to focus on solely what the guitar was doing back in my earlier days of listening, but I've matured to the point where I could give two fucks what instrument is being used, just as long as the final product (the music) is interesting from an artistic viewpoint.

However, on recordings like "The Work Which Transforms God" or "March To The Black Holocaust", I can't help but focus on the twisted and unique tone that the guitar is employing to help generate the deep atmosphere of the music as a whole. The guitar tone seems to be one of the defining factors in the atmosphere of the album, which is the case of many other albums.

I hope that made at least a bit of sense.

Hmm i love Panteras cowboys from hell sound :D. Dunno what makes it so crushing to my ears, same goes for Behemoth The Apostasy.

Void Of Silence - The Human Antithesis
Nevermore - Dead Heart In A Dead World, This Godless Endeavor
Aghora - Formless
Primordial - To The Nameless Dead, Spirit The Earth Aflame
Anathema - The Silent Enigma

Good call on Primordial. A lot of people hate early ATG tone, whether it is good or bad, I still love it. Beyond The Wandering Moon, Oceanic ... there are a lot of albums that have good tone.
