This is for J. He was interested in what this issue of Terrorizer had for the Top 20 Foundation Albums for Black Metal.

In chronological order (as Terrorizer lists them):

Venom - Black Metal

Mercyful Fate - Melissa

Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales

Destruction - Sentence of Death

Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids

Sodom - In The Sign Of Evil

Sepultura - Morbid Visions

Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark

Sarcofago - I.N.R.I.

Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky

Beherit - Drawing Down The Moon

Blasphemy - Gods of War

Darkthrone - Under A Funeral Moon

Emperor/Enslaved - Split

Immortal - Pure Holocaust

Sigh - Scorn Defeat

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane

If there's enough interest, I can edit in year of release, record label, and/or Terrorizer's description.

J.: Terrorizer's second wave albums are the ones that I REALLY like. That list is just awesome. Of course this list is pretty damn good as well.

I'm not too cool for school because I only have those 4. Well, I guess I'm too cool for shortbus school.

i'm kinda surprised Dark Medieval Times didnt make it. and it would have been nice to see a graveland album on there since they've been at it as long as most of the forerunners, but i know terrorizer steers away from from "those" types of bands. oh well....

surprised about tormentor as well
i still need those bathory albums

here's the Top 20 BM Progressions:

HONESTLY

they have ALWAYS sucked BIG FUCKING COCK.

circus_brimstone, being a funnyguy, sent me a fuckload of cradle albums in the mail so i nowadays know what i'm talking about since i listened to a little bit of each, including their first, and it's all SHIT. none of it is even remotely black metal, and the early stuff comes off as very very amateurish in playing and production (not "raw", merely incompetent) as well.

i have a whole TWO of these! (Blaze and Nightside)

i win!

ones that make my BUY EVENTUALLY OR DIE list:

Dissection (regardless of whether it belongs here), Beherit, Bathory and Mercyful Fate.

Venom - Black Metal
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
Destruction - Sentence of Death
Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids
Sodom - In The Sign Of Evil
Sepultura - Morbid Visions
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Sarcofago - I.N.R.I.

Yup, all except Blasphemy

The list needs some Sabbat (Jap) and Tormentor (Hun)

Listen to Queen of Winter Throned, A Gothic Romance, and Haunted Shores.

Think of them simply as heavy metal with no associations with black metal whatsoever.

Cradle of Filth has written some awesome heavy metal songs.

CV: I trust you've heard that sigh, no? It rules, so you really SHOULD get it

Garbage-in-place-of-brain: OK, they're all pals of yours I suppose? Or at least mail you their fave band-lists? You're retarded, get the fuck out, if you don't have any ears OR a brain, why hang at this forum?

Actually, I haven't heard it. I heard someone call 'em "avant-garde" and that just doesn't ring well with me, so I stayed clear. :p
bah it's not strange for the sake of strange like the newer albums, it seriously kicks ass

if it was good enough for euro to sign for DSP, it's good enough for you

get on it
